Greetings!
Most of you know that All Saints offers a midweek Healing Service on Wednesday mornings from 10:00 to roughly 11:30. What many of you may not know is that the Lord shows up in power every week. People are healed every week! We meet with the Lord, give testimony, weep in the Spirit, rest in the Spirit, and are sent out in the power of the Holy Spirit every week. On the eve of my installation as your rector, as I pray and listen and look forward to this next season at All Saints, I am convinced that we are called to a renewed emphasis on the Person and the power of the Holy Spirit. We simply cannot move forward as He is calling us without getting on our faces before Him, remembering together:"Not by might, nor by power, but by my Spirit, says the LORD of hosts" (Zechariah 4:6). When it comes to the Person and the power of the Holy Spirit, we are, as a church family, all over the map. This is as it should be. Some of us are among the "un-initiated" but perhaps are eager to hear more. Some of us are baptized in Holy Spirit, but we don't quite know how to operate in the gifts. Still others of us have been serving in the power of the Holy Spirit for decades...y'all started the Healing Service, and we thank you! We all come together as one church family to worship, to serve and to learn from each other...why not on Wednesday mornings? What I am suggesting is that we take a fresh look at our midweek service. I want to hold up our Wednesday Healing Service not only as a service set aside for healing in the Name of Jesus, but also as a weekly gathering spot to grow in the Holy Spirit; a laboratory of sorts for those who seek to deepen their dependence upon, and their submission to, the Person and the power of the Holy Spirit. I see our midweek service filled with worshippers, members and visitors alike, and not just those who desire healing but also those who desire to learn more about healing; those who just want to be around His healing. As I pray and listen and look forward to this next season at All Saints, I am excited by the challenging promise from this Sunday's Gospel. With the outpouring of the Holy Spirit in mind, Jesus says to His Church: "Truly, truly, I say to you, whoever believes in me will also do the works that I do; and greater works than these will he do, because I am going to the Father" (John 14:12). There are no excuses. I believe this will be a year of renewed emphasis on the Person and the power of the Holy Spirit, and I can't wait to see what the Lord is going to do in and through us. I look forward to worshipping with you on Sunday, and I hope to see you around the lab on Wednesdays. God bless y'all, Rob |
