Start this Lenten season with a "bang"...a very quiet "bang"
...O.K. a silent "bang". I'm talking about the Quiet Day retreat, this Ash Wednesday morning from 9:00 - 12:00 noon in the Large Sanctuary. There will be some thoughtful meditations based on a key portion of Scripture, and an opportunity to be still, to hear the Lord and maybe even listen to the voice of our heavenly Father who loves us so.
Is there any difference between hearing God and listening to His voice?
"You shall know His power today if you will listen to His voice."
- Psalm 95:7
"Now choose life, so that you and your children may live and that you may love the Lord your God, listen to His voice, and hold fast to Him. For the Lord is your life, and He will give you many years in the land He swore to your fathers, Abraham, Isaac and Jacob."
- Deuteronomy 30:20
"Speak, Lord, for Your servant is listening."
- I Samuel 3:10b
I believe listening to the Lord, especially in the Old Testament, involves moving out and doing something about what we are hearing from the Lord. Join us on Ash Wednesday morning for this time of quiet listening, and plan on staying for the Ash Wednesday service with ashes at 12:00. For those who cannot stay for the Ash Wednesday service at noon, we will offer the service with ashes again at 5:30. We are entering a holy season of listening, reflecting, and repenting. Start Lent with a "bang".
Note: Next week's eLetter will be entitled Lent for Dummies... please don't be insulted, unless you should be. I'll have some fun looking at this season, but I need your help. Please send
any of the questions you may have about Lent to info@allsaintspawleys.org. This should be fun - which is O.K. in Lent, as long as you don't say "alleluia".
See you Sunday and God bless you!
