Greetings!

Earlier this week, a good friend and I were talking about leadership and delegation. He reminded me of an old adage that says that leaders should identify, from among all of the things that they are doing, those things that they alone can do. "All the rest," he said, "you can and probably should delegate to others."

It got me thinking. What are those "I alone can do" things for me? I immediately thought of Teresa and the kids. I am her husband and their Dad. I alone can do that. That is not to be delegated.

What else? I and I alone can respond to Christ's call on my life to be His disciple. Others can encourage me in it, others can teach me about it and show me good examples of it; but, I have to do it. That is not to be delegated.

What about reaching out to others with the love of Christ? What about sharing Christ with people who are disconnected from Him? For a long time, I think that I delegated that one to Billy Graham. He is so good at it, but it is not that simple. Each of us who has a relationship with Christ has a story to tell about what God has done and is doing in our lives. And, it is uniquely ours to tell. In God's remarkable sovereignty, He allows us to enter others' lives in such a way that we bump into opportunities to reveal, either bit by bit or all at once, what God has shown us about Himself. When we take a pass on living missionally, we forfeit that which only we can do.

We have invited internationally known speaker and author, Reggie McNeal, to lead us next weekend (October 29-30) in a two day conference on living missional lives and being a missional church. He has a passion for helping ordinary people step into the life that God has designed us to have and that only we can live. I urge you to make every effort to be a part of what will prove to be a highly engaging, extremely humorous and life-changing experience.

See you on Sunday.
