Greetings!
Some things in life are learned once and, once learned, never require additional information - like learning your multiplication tables or the alphabet. Once you get those down, you can use them in a variety of ways but the original learning stays the same. However, some things in life require the attitude of a lifelong learner. There is more to know, more to experience - like love or friendship or parenting. Even with a lifetime of experience, you often feel like a beginner. Then there are those things in life where we think it is a once learned thing only to discover that it is actually a lifetime learner thing. Take worship for example. For years, I put that in the once learned category. You know the drill. I assumed that once I had the whole kneel, sit, stand thing figured out; once I understood the hymnal and prayer book thing; once I got the sing, listen to the sermon, pray, tip God at the offering, take communion and shake the pastor's hand at the back door routine down pat, I had worship licked. Until 1984. That's when I began to work for a man named Renny Scott. He opened a door into the world of worship that I had never known existed; and, I have been learning ever since. This Tuesday, we have a tremendous opportunity to gather and be led in worship by Andy Piercy. At a recent meeting in Atlanta, God used Andy to open yet another door for me into the world of ever deepening worship. After the meeting, I immediately asked Andy if he would come to All Saints and lead us for an evening ( details). I urge you to attend. You will not be disappointed. And, you will see how worship is hardly a once learned thing. See you Sunday. Terrell |
