A CHECK-UP FOR THE Y

United Prairie officials presented capital campaign co-chair Jay Weir, left and Y Executive Director John Kind second from left with a $25,000 contribution toward the Y's $3 million construction project. (Pictured from UP are, third from left to right, Stuart Sneer, Michael Laskey and Mark Mitzel)
...And your help is still needed
If you're a Y member and have yet to contribute to the Y's remodeling, please consider giving.

Remodeled locker rooms and lobby, increased parking space, new cost-saving heat, air con, electric and plumbing are among the comforts we're providing members through this project. Please consider helping with a contribution.
INTRO TO BODY PUMP - FREE

Body Pump class

It's loud, lively and coming to the Y.

Les Mills Body Pump is the patented international exercise class that has instructors here eager to finish their own training and lead this colorful, invigorating workout.

At first blush, it's aerobics with weights. Participants use low-weight barbells with high repetitions in squatting, pressing, lifting and curling.  What results is a stronger and more toned physique. There's also a choreographed aspect to it, with high-energy (and chart-topping) music specifically geared to each exercise.

To introduce members to the Body Pump experience, the Y is offering free sampler classes.

Free trial class dates and times are:

Get your business in the Y

front desk digital signage

Have you noticed the new digital message boards in the Y lobby and the Life Center? Not only are these display terminals a more colorful and attractive way to provide members with the latest Y news flashes, it's an affordable way for businesses to support the Y while reaching potential customers.

For $100 a month, your professionally designed message will rotate among messages at the rate of six times per hour for every hour of operation. Crunching the numbers, that adds up to 2,735 showings of your message per week, and a rate of .03 per  message.

Interested? We're limiting the number of sponsors to 20, so stop by the lobby and Life Center and have a look. Email or call
to sign up at 345-9807.

Tips to registering online

Having trouble registering for classes online?  Chances are it's a password or email issue.

In order to register on the web site's online registration page, you need to have an email address and a password on file at the Y. This applies to non-members as well.

Contact the Y in person or by phone at 387-8255 to submit your email address (along with your name, birth date and address) and establish a password.

As noted on the page, the default password is your first initial of your first name plus the first initial of your last name plus your date of birth (mm/dd/yy). For example, John Doe born on February 1, 1968 would have a password of JD020168.

Call 387-8255 to check on your email and password status. Once you have those, online registration should be a virtual breeze.

News and notes

There's time to register for the Fellowship of Christian Athletes Jr. Sports Clinic taking place July 24 through 26. Register by July 16 at the Y. Enjoy some scenes from the June clinic.

Youth flag football registration is underway for grades K-4. The program begins the week of Aug. 27 and registration needs to be in by Aug. 3.

Heart Walk nominees sought

Do you know someone who's affected by heart disease?

As the Mankato Heart Walk approaches, we'd like to focus attention on a few people who can vouch for the difference education can make when it comes to heart disease (and the work of the American Heart Association).

The hope is that by sharing their name and story, we can enlist others to take part in the fundraising walk on August. 28.

Please send nominations and contact information here or call 345-9807.
