Message from Charlie Karlsson - President of ERSA
Dear ERSA members,
At the outset, I must say that I am deeply honoured to be the new president of ERSA. I am very much looking forward to cooperating with you, the sections, EOC, ERSAC and the ERSA secretariat in Louvain-la-Neuve to further develop the interests of ERSA. ERSA

10th Anniversary of the membership of Slovak section in the European Regional Science Association
Society for Regional Science and Policy, which is the umbrella organisation associating Slovak and Czech regional scientists and practitioners, is celebrating the 10th anniversary of the accession to the ERSA. The history of the Society started in early 90th, its main activities has been Clubs of Regional Scientists, organised as informal interdisciplinary meetings of regional economists, spatial planners, environmental economists, sociologists and geographers. In recent years we have extended our activities, of the most significant we can mentioned e.g. biennial Central European Conference in Regional Science (organised jointly with Technical University of Kosice, University of Economics in Bratislava and German Speaking Section of ERSA) or Regional Discussion Forums in Kosice. During these days we are launching new international scientific journal Region Direct and a web page, which will serve as a main information platform of the regional science community in Slovakia and Czech Republic. To support the young regional scientists we are also running project "Learn More and Publish!" (supported by the Tatrabanka Foundation), which will cover two activities - specialised seminars and competition of the best scientific paper of young regional scientist.
(prof. Rudolf Sivák, rector of University of Economics in Bratislava and prof. Milan Buček, former president of Slovac Section of ERSA)
