PRESIDENT'S NEWS |
|
We had a very positive response from the first of these new style Newsletters with a number of suggestions for items that could be included and extra services the newsletter should provide. These included news about job openings, conferences and publications. We do not want to bombard ERSA members and affiliates with junk-emails so we will aim for new editions of the Newsletter every 6 to 8 weeks.
Things move on apace in the new office in Louvain-La-Neuve, Belgium. Our Executive Director, Marie Hervo, has made excellent progress on constructing an up to date, consolidated email list of members and work on this will continue. If you should be getting two - or even perhaps more - copies of this please let her know which email address she should retain. The ERSA Domain name is being transferred to the office in Louvain-La-Neuve and Marie plans to overhaul the ERSA Website and bring this up to date. I discovered the other day that my statement when first becoming President was still up and there is already a nomination for my successor. Marie has an intern in the office working with her at the moment and this is proving very effective and will make these tasks much easier.
There are other areas where progress is being made and we hope to have some firm news in time for the next Newsletter.
Paul Cheshire, 7 April 2008.

ERSAC Votes for the location of the 2010 ERSA Congress
The ERSA Nordic section will host the 50th ERSA Congress in Sweden
In
the meeting of ERSAC in Paris 2007, three sections presented their bids
for the 50th ERSA Congress to be held in 2010. The congress proposals
included Istanbul (Turkey), Jönköping (Sweden), and Split (Croatia) -
three very different but attractive locations.
After
discussing the three alternatives, the ERSAC decided that the EOC
should first thoroughly investigate the bids submitted by the Nordic
and the Turkish sections. ERSAC would then make their choice through an
electronic voting system.
After
investigating the bids, the EOC proposed in its February 2008 meeting
that the 50th ERSA Congress would be awarded to the LOC based at
Jönköping, Sweden. The electronic voting system was set up, and the
ERSAC submitted their votes by 15 March 2008.
The
electronic voting system worked successfully, and altogether 18 answers
were received. Only one section failed to respond, and another section
chose to abstain from voting. The bids received votes as follows:
For the EOC proposal: 16 votes Against the EOC proposal: 2 votes Based of the electronic voting, the 2010 ERSA Congress is awarded to Jönköping, and will be hosted by the Nordic Section.
On behalf on ERSA, we wish the Jönköping LOC the best of luck and we hope to see all of you in Sweden in 2010!
