Athletes of the Month - Adam Campbell & Brent Poulson | ADAM CAMPBELL Adam Campbell has been blazing a trail, literally, for the past several years on the national and international running scene. Adam lives and trains in Victoria, BC but competes globally in the quickly growing sport of trail and mountain running. Adam is a three time member of Canada's National Trail Running team and has competed at the World Mountain Running Championships. He competes frequently around North America in both road and trail races and has numerous podium finishes in on and off road races including a 2nd place finish at the 2009 Vancouver International Marathon and a third place finish at his first ultra in March at the Chuckanut 50km in Bellingham, WA.
Adam has managed to keep pursuing his passion for running while obtaining a Law degree at the University of Victoria. He is currently articling with a firm in Vancouver, BC and is the proud husband of 7SYSTEMS Pro Team member Lauren Groves.
As you can imagine, Adam tries to get the most out of life and he uses 7SYSTEMS to help him DO MORE.

Health Tip - Campbell's Favourite Lemongrass Soup |
Lemongrass Soup with Halibut and Veggies
One of Adam Campbell's favourite dinners! | For complete list of ingredients visit our Energy Foods BLOG.
1. In a pot combine the water, lemongrass, lemon juice, ginger, carrots, celery and onion.
2. Bring to a boil and simmer for about 20 minutes.
3. Add in coconut milk, broccoli, cabbage, tamari, mushrooms, salt and pepper and continue to cook for 5-10 minutes, adding more water if a thinner consistency is desired.
4. Add the cubed halibut and cook for another minute or two, just until the fish is white and flaky.
5. Pour the soup into bowls and whisk one teaspoon of miso paste into each bowl, if desired.
6. Top with a scoop of steaming rice and enjoy! |

Coach's Corner - How to Run Uphill Adam Campbell Style | |
Adam Campbell recently sat down with fellow 7SYSTEMS Pro Team Member Jasper Blake and gave him 5 tips on how to improve his uphill running. Jasper has recorded Adam's tips below in hopes they can help you improve your hill climbing abilities.
-
Cadence, cadence, cadence...on off road trails, it is all about moving your feet as fast as they can go.
-
Use your arms to set the tempo for your legs.
-
Try to stay as "tall" as possible. Think of staying upright.
-
To improve your uphills, you have to train your uphill running. Do intervals on a hill of 6-8%, my favourite is 8x3 min with 1 minute rest.
-
Sometimes it is just faster to power hike than run---so practice power hiking in training. Read more about Adam's trail racing tips.

| Ingredient Highlight - Ginseng |
7SYSTEMS Endurance Sports Supplement contains 300mg of high quality Panax Ginseng in every daily pack (to buy our Ginseng pill separately would cost $20-$30 a month alone). Ginseng is one of our Critical System ingredients and plays an important role in 7SYSTEMS' ability to keep you healthy so you can focus on your training and racing. Since this is one of the ingredients we get regular questions about we thought we would give you a quick overview of why it is included in the product. Ginseng is arguably the best known herb on the market. There are two main varieties of Ginseng, Panax Ginseng, also called Asian or Korean Ginseng, and American Ginseng. Each type of Ginseng has a somewhat different biochemical make-up and therefore has different effects. Origins Panax Ginseng is native to China, Korea, and Russia and has been used as a herbal remedy in traditional Chinese medicine for thousands of years. More recently Ginseng has been promoted as an 'adaptogen' which means it increases resistance to stress and builds energy and general vitality. As a result, Ginseng has been added to a variety of different products. |

Harry Rosen 8km Review
It was a great day for all members of the 7SYSTEMS team (which somehow got left out of the team results but would have easily earned the title based on its top finishers placings) that competed in a sold out field at the Harry Rosen 8km road race on April 3rd in Toronto's High park. Megan gutted out a tough race and was a strong 2nd overall in the womens race. Jon took almost 1:45 off his previous time and was 15th overall in the men's event. Mike and Wes battled to a sprint finish, with Mike out kicking Wes and both posting PBs. Natasha also raced strongly and posted a PB. Congrats team to a great start to the racing season.
The immensely popular Sporting Life 10km race is this Sunday in Toronto. Let us know if you want to be part of Team 7SYSTEMS that is poised to repeat last year's team victory. Email info@7SYSTEMS.ca.
Happy Cross-Training!
