Athlete of the Month - Canada's Olympians |
|
|
| That hockey game was amazing!
With 14 Gold Medals we've done better than any other country has at any past Olympic Winter Games. This February, British Columbia, Canada, played host to the this record breaking athletic achievement.
In honor of the Olympic Games being in our backyard we would like to salute and recognize all of Canada's Olympians and congratulate them on their efforts of the past couple of weeks and the years leading into the Games.
Just qualifying for an Olympic team is a herculean feat. Athletes must have a singular focus for years while training 4-10 hours a day, 6-7 days a week, working to stay healthy during this time, sacrificing personal lives while travelling the world for competitions. Then its time to compete at the Games; and the athlete must perform at their best while under the spotlight of millions of fans. It is an incredibly hard but rewarding road they travel. So, our athletes of the month for February are all of Canada's winter Olympians. Despite facing extraordinary pressure to perform at home from the media, government and the public, Canada's team has handled the criticism that was heaped on it during the opening week of the Games and has come through with 26 medals. This guarantees Canada third place in the overall medal count along with record setting 14 Gold medals. Amazing.
Our Olympians have made all of Canada proud. We celebrate them all, they are an inspiration.
Go Canada!
7SYSTEMS' 2010 Pro Team includes 6 Olympians, including 3 gold medalists. We believe that more Olympic gold medalists use 7SYSTEMS than any other Canadian nutritional supplement...and we don't pay them a dime to do it. Athletes use 7SYSTEMS because it works!

Health Tip - Finn's "Hat Trick" Snacks |
|
|
Finnlayson Blake turned two on February 23rd and to celebrate he successfully put a slapshot into the top right hand corner of his hockey net. This budding hockey star loves to eat healthy and yummy snacks before a big session of playing floor hockey with his dad Jasper. Some of Finn's favorites recipes are set out below. They are great healthy snacks for kids (and adults): Banana Puck Poppers
1 piece of sprouted grain bread- toasted 1 tablespoon of almond (or other suitable nut butter) 1 banana
- Spread almond butter on the toast, cut toast into 9 equal sized squares (two length wise cuts, two width wise cuts).
- Add one slice of banana to each square (hockey puck shaped). Easy bite sized portions that taste great!

Coach's Corner - Vancouver 2010 Perspectives |
|
All of the 7SYSTEMS founders had a chance to visit the Vancouver 2010 Winter Olympics. Here are some of their perspectives on this amazing event:
Jasper Blake
Probably the biggest lesson we can take from the winter Olympics is that there are literally dozens of great sports that can keep us fit during the winter months. Triathletes often get stuck in a rut during the winter months and forget that there are other great ways to stay fit in the snow.
I was fortunate enough to enjoy a day of skiing in Whistler during the Olympic games and I can tell you I am incredibly sore from one outing. I was amazed with how vigorously my core and back muscles were worked during a day on the downhill slopes, not to mention my quads!
Martin Rydlo I experienced the village of Whistler, saw some of the skiing competitions live, talked to volunteers and witnessed the excitement the outdoors brought to kids' faces. I also had the chance to walk the streets of Vancouver to experience the biggest party of 2010, heard languages from all over the world, haggled for tickets and felt the beat of a city standing prouder than it ever has.
So for those that only had a chance to experience the Olympics through TV, web and newspaper coverage, here's an insider's perspective.
