Athletes of the Month - Ironman Hawaii Report & Erinne Willock |
|
|
|
On October 10, 2009, several 7SYSTEMS athletes braved the Kona course. It was a day full of amazing stories. While it's hard to capture them all, we can summarize those we have heard courtesy of Jasper Blake. Please email us any other stories you want to share.
Mike Neill Tough day but gutted it out for another solid finish. Mike has consistently been Canada's top athlete in Kona for last 5 years. This year wasn't his best day but he hung in there, good on ya Mike. Time: 9:11:07. Overall ranking: 45.
- Rich Pady Despite some pre-race health issues, hung in there to finish under 10. Good on ya Rich. Time: 9:40:37. Overall ranking: 149.
- Joe Rizzi How you manage to run your business, spend time with your family and still do an Ironman in 10:10 is amazing. Keep on inspiring us. Time: 10:10:26. Overall ranking: 351.
- Jasper Blake A disappointing day for this former IM Champ. "When things go south in Ironman you can start going backwards in a hurry." We're happy you made it out of the medical tent with enough energy to compete last weekend in the Xterra World Championships.
- Other Please send us your stories of Kona if you raced it this year.
Erinne Willock
Although we just featured Erinne in last month's eMag, we thought we had to mention her again given her amazing result at the World Championships. Erinne rode in the front pack, attempted several break-aways on the very tough 124km course and ended up in an incredible 7th place overall at the World Road Cycling Championships on Sept 26. Competed against the best cyclists from around the world, and taking on the Europeans on their home turf in Mendrisio, Switzerland. Congrulations on an amazing accomplishment. Visit our Success Story BLOG to read more athletes' stories. Just in case you were wondering, we do not pay any of our profiled athletes to use 7SYSTEMS - they all use it because it works for them! |

Contest WINNER - Simon's Most Memorable Finish |
We have a winner. Evan Dietz was chosen randomly from everyone that completed the survey. Congratulations Evan.
Here's what he wrote when he found out he had won the 7SYSTEMS prize pack:
I am an age group athlete, and have been competing in triathlons for 3 years now, and basically began doing them because it was a means for me to lose weight and get back into shape. I lost 50 pounds and I am never looking back. My specialty is long course triathlons, and I am about to start up training in the next few weeks to compete in the ITU Long Course World Triathlon Championships in 2010 in Immenstadt, Germany with my girlfriend Deanne.
Thanks for having this contest....I have not yet tried any 7SYSTEMS products, but I am looking forward to trying it out.
Sincerely,
Enjoy your free 7SYSTEMS and good luck with your training and racing.
Here are how the votes ended up for Simon's best finish:

Running Injuries - How to Prevent, Recognize and Treat the Most Common By Dean Armstrong
Pain - unfortunately - is a familiar concept for runners. Running is a high-impact activity and a certain degree of pain is to be expected.
But when the pain a runner experiences is recurring or increasing, both after and during workouts, we might be looking at an injury.
Injuries are usually caused by a mix of three factors: sudden increase in training volume, incorrect technique and biomechanical unbalance. In most cases you can diagnose your overuse injury on your own, as runners typically fall victims of one of the following four common injuries. This doesn't mean you should avoid seeing a specialist, but it is important to recognize the symptoms at an early stage, so that you can correct your training and prevent the injury from becoming something serious.
