Athlete of the Month- Ray Zahab |
|
|
In December 2008, three world-class adventurers, including ultra-runner Ray Zahab, legendary arctic explorer Richard Weber, and elite adventurer Kevin Vallely began a self-supported trek from Hercules Inlet to the Geographic South Pole; a distance of over 1,100km. With an existing record of 39 days and a goal of 40 days, they dragged sleds weighing over 170 pounds (73 kilograms) each, and arrived at the Pole on January 6th, 2009 in a new record time of 33 days 23 hours and 55 minutes. They used 7SYSTEMS endurance sport supplement daily including the day they reached the South Pole (so yes, 7SYSTEMS has conquored another continent!).
Ray Zahab is a world renowned ultra marathon runner and adventurer. His story is as compelling as the adventures he undertakes. Find out more about Ray, this expedition as well as his charity, Impossible2Possible, at www.southpolequest.com. Impossible2Possible is a non-profit organization dedicated to inspiring, educating, and equipping a generation of global problem solvers to achieve environmental and human sustainability.
Visit our Success Story Blog to read more athletes' stories. Just in case you were wondering, we do not pay our profiled athletes to use 7SYSTEMS- they all use it because it works for them!

Health Tip- What Your Body Needs |
To go that extra distance your body generally relies on three categories of nutrients. Without the right levels of these three nutrients the body's ability to perform and recover is reduced, especially for an active person.
- Energy: Carbohydrates, Proteins and the right Fats, referred to as macro-nutrients, ideally derived through eating whole foods.
- Building Blocks: Vitamins, Minerals, and Antioxidants, referred to as micro-nutrients, that your body extracts from whole foods.
- Liquid: Water represents over 60% of our bodies and acts as an essential 'enabler' for the other 2 types of nutrients.
What most people don't realize is that training does not make us stronger. Training is the process by which we put stress on the body and break it down. After a hard training session or a race we are actually weaker than when we started. It is the recovery from hard training that results in increased strength and improved fitness. If we don't recover properly then we don't realize all of the potential fitness gains.
Recovery is largely a result of rest and proper nutrition. We need to supply our bodies with the building blocks to repair both on a macro and micro nutrient level and of course we need to rehydrate so our bodies function optimally.
WHEN YOU'VE GOT IT |
|
WHEN YOU DON'T |
| Athlete nutrition can be easier by relying on a supplement like 7SYSTEMS to take the guesswork out of what vitamins, minerals and anti-oxidants to take specific for your athletic needs. |
|
Our bodies tell us relatively quickly when we are lacking energy or liquid by feeling hungry or thirsty. Unfortunately the body has limited signs when it starts depleting critical building block ingredients. |

| Coach's Corner- Staying Focused in Winter |
The bed is calling to you stay as the cold weather yells at you not to go outside. Your eyes are getting heavier with each passing morning and the will to get wet is waning. You think to yourself, "Ahhh, missing one practice won't hurt. The season is still months away."
The danger is that both statements are correct. Missing one practice rarely hurts your development or performance. And, being January, the race season is still many months away. However, these are mere symptoms of a larger issue that almost everyone faces in the dead of winter - a decreasing lack of desire to continue training throughout the winter. The major causes of this issue are usually repetition and lack of competitive opportunities.
