Athletes of the Month- Our Triathlon World Champ Competitors

Four 7SYSTEMS athletes competing in the World Triathlon Championships on Friday, June 6 have been named among the top age-group sprint triathletes in the world!  Martin Rydlo, Stefan Timms, Mike Greenberg and Georgie Stone's podium performances show that they have obviously discovered the fountain of youth with 7SYSTEMS Endurance Sport Supplement.

On the men's side, Martin Rydlo (35-39) and Mike Greenberg (30-34) both took home gold in their age group while Stefan Timms (35-39) secured a bronze.  Long time rivals and steadfast friends, these three men exemplify the 7SYSTEMS mantra: you do more you need more.  Putting in an average of 70 - 90 hours of work / week while still training, these athletes definitely 'need more' support for their bodies.

Georgie Stone from Guelph, Ontario, also had an amazing Sprint distance race finishing 3rd in the 35-39 age group  thanks to the support of her C3 Triathlon Club coach Miguel Vadillo.  She also had a chance to celebrate her birthday on the podium while receiving her bronze medal.

Two more 7SYSTEMS athletes deserve recognition and our congratulations for their performances at this year's World Triathlon Championships.  Lauren Groves and Colin Jenkins were officially confirmed as members of Canada's 2008 Olympic Triathlon Team going to Beijing this summer as a result of their exceptional races in the elite competitions.  Good luck in Beijing Colin and Lauren, we're with you every step of the way!

Just in case you were wondering, we do not pay our profiled athletes to use 7SYSTEMS- they all use it because it works for them!

Health Tip-Bromelain

What It Is
Bromelain is a mixture of protein-digesting enzymes found in pineapples (Ananas comosus ).

What It Supports
Al on skiisBromelain contains active substances that aid digestion and help reduce inflammation.  Bromelain is useful in the treatment of a wide range of conditions, but it is particularly effective in relieving inflammation associated with infection and physical injuries.

How It Works
The protein-digesting enzymes found in bromelain help promote and maintain proper digestion and may relieve symptoms of stomach upset or heartburn, particularly when used in conjunction with other enzymes such as amylase (which digests starch) and lipase (which digests fat). Similarly, a study has found that the antibacterial effects of bromelain may help to control diarrhea caused by bacteria.  Bromelain achieves this effect by helping prevent allergens from crossing the gastrointestinal tract.  This reduces the chance that these complexes will leave the stomach untouched.

Sources
Bromelain is obtained from the lower portion of the mature pineapple plant stems where the highest concentration exists.

7SYSTEMS RUNNING LOW?
Coach's Corner- Running Faster
You love to run.  Whether it is about enjoying all the outdoors has to offer or pushing yourself to your limits, running can be an exhilarating experience.  If you do race your goal is likely to run faster.  In order to get get faster you have to run frequently and put in the miles, but you also need to ensure you do some harder running.

Lactate threshold (LT) workouts are often the most effective way to increase race pace.  LT workouts provide a shortcut toward working at a higher percentage of your maximum heart rate.  Including workouts at your lactate threshold intensity on a regular basis will help you be able to work at this intensity for longer periods.  "Tempo" runs are a fantastic way to train at or slightly above your LT.  These runs are longer in duration (from 20minutes to 60 min depending on fitness and training volume) and you should feel fatigued, but not exhausted, upon completion of the workout.  This training helps your aerobic engine to become more economical.

Lactic acid tolerance training is particularly demanding and taxing on the human body. You can complement your tempo runs with longer intervals, at slightly above LT. An example is 3 x 1 mile at slightly faster than tempo run pace, with 30-50% rest time (i.e. 2-3 minutes rest if you are running a 6 minute mile). When these intervals are used appropriately they can enhance the body's tolerance to working at an intensity that has your muscles working at deprived levels of oxygen supply via your blood, a condition which produces lactic acid.

Our Community- Event Support this Summer
We've been busy the last few months supporting various community events.  From the Triathlon British Columbia fund-raiser in March, to the C3 Training Camp in May, 7SYSTEMS has been helping athletes do more.  We also recently enjoyed being involved with the first race in the Lifesport Series in Victoria.  We are sponsoring the entire Lifesport race series with the next mens sprint winnersstop in the series being the New Balance Victoria International Triathlon on June 22, 2008.  We're also proud to announce a partnership with the Oak Ridges Moraine Adventure Relay, which took place just north of Toronto on June 14.  We are also award sponsors at the Logs, Rocks and Steel Logs, Rocks and Steel multipsport race on July 19.  Hope to see you at one of these events!
