Greetings!
Aloha to you from Kauai! It's time for Spring Fever... even here Hawaii.  May Day is "Lei Day" in Hawaii. Did you hear about our Honolulu neighbors assembling the world's longest lei on May 1st? Their lei stretched for over a mile at 5,336 feet! Organizers of the event are hoping to make it into the next issue of the Guinness World Records. On Kauai, the most talented lei makers on the island took place in the annual "Lei Day" competition at the Kauai Museum and shared their skills at lei making workshops.
In this May Issue of our Kauai View Newsletter, we wanted to update you on some of the new restaurants popping up on the North Shore. Hawaiian Airlines is expanding their services to pick up some of the slack left by the departure of ATA and Aloha Airlines. Poipu makes another national Top 10 list and we are starting to see a real increase in real estate transactions.

| Westin's Princeville Ocean Resort Villas
A New Restaurant to Try!
The new Princeville Ocean Resort Villas is now open. The main clubhouse features a new restaurant and bar called "Nanea".Although we have not yet had the chance to eat there yet, we did stop by to check out the menu. Nanea is open for breakfast, lunch and dinner. Breakfast features a buffet, or you can order ala carte from the menu. Sandwiches and salads highlight the lunch menu, with items priced from $10 to $14. Dinner is a more elegant affair with creations like Grilled Ribeye Steak, Asian BBQ Rack of Lamb and Mahi Mahi Lau Lau. Prices range from $29 to $40 for a full dinner. The restaurant offers inside and outside tables with views of the swimming pools, waterfalls and the ocean. The chef is from Honolulu and word has it the food is great!
Meanwhile, the owners of the Princeville Shopping Center are working on a new "Food Court" that will be located near the Post Office. The Paradise Grille now has a bigger deck seating area, and new eateries are due to be open in time for the busy summer season. Also gearing up for the busy summer tourist season in Princeville is Saffron Restaurant that is now open on weekends for breakfast.

Airline Update
Hawaiian Airlines Adds New Route
Starting May 1st, Hawaiian Airlines began non-stop service between Honolulu and Oakland, CA. A spokesman for Hawaiian says that they are considering adding service from Oakland to other Hawaiian Islands in the future. From now through June 6th, Hawaiian is offering a special introductory fare of $420 Roundtrip. For details and availability check out their website at www.hawaiianair.com. |

| Kauai Buyers are Back

We have seen a big increase in real estate activity on Kauai in April. Buyers are getting an early start on the busy summer season in search of really great deals. 72 properties went into escrow on Kauai last month with prices ranging from $147,500 for a building lot to 2.3 million for a luxury resort home!
The outlook for vacation homes is optimistic according to the 2008 Annual Wealth Report by property consultants, Knight Frank and Citi Private Bank. "The boom in second-home ownership over the past decade will be nothing compared with the growth we will see over the next decade," the report says.
