South Carolina Arts Commission News
November 2011
|
Hello everyone,
Back in April, we got a preliminary look at data from a study on South Carolina's creative industries, conducted by researchers at the Darla Moore School of Business at USC. The study shows that creative enterprise (the arts and related industries) in S.C. has a core impact of $9.2 billion and 78,682 jobs. We now have the full report, with analysis by Dr. Doug Woodward, available for your use as a PDF. Read more about the report below.
Get ready to kick off the new year with a rousing conference and networking opportunity! Register for the 2012 Statewide Arts Conference scheduled for Feb. 8 -- "THRIVE: The Arts in the Future of South Carolina." This is THE event to attend if you believe that the arts are vital to our state's future.
I hope you'll also be in Columbia the day before, on Feb. 7, for Arts Advocacy Day in S.C. We'll soon have a list of hotels offering discounts for you on that night.
Many services the Arts Commission provides revolve around staff knowledge and calling on outside experts to offer consultations and training. On Dec. 7, we're presenting a free webinar geared toward successful board governance for small and mid-sized arts organizations. I hope you'll take advantage of this convenient way to provide board training.
I'll close by wishing you a happy Thanksgiving. I am certainly very grateful for South Carolina's arts community and for your participation in it!
Sincerely,

Ken May Executive Director
