South Carolina Arts Commission News
August 2011
|
Hello everyone,
One of the desired outcomes of the new Long Range Plan for the Arts 2011-2020 is "broad recognition within the state and beyond its borders of the value of and the unique contribution made by the arts in South Carolina." Achieving that outcome begins with showcasing our world-class artists, such as the four individuals recently named S.C. Arts Commission Individual Artist Fellows. We congratulate and thank these artists for their superb representation of our state.
Back-to-school time is always hectic, but teachers should take time to check out two opportunities included in this e-newsletter: Poetry Out Loud and Teacher Standards Implementation grants. TSI grants are small awards that arts teachers can use for classroom supplies or professional development.
If you are a new arts administrator, we hope you'll join us for an orientation to the Arts Commission on Aug. 24. In addition to finding out more about our services, you'll meet our most valuable resource - our staff - who are ready to help you navigate your new role and share resources beyond what we offer. In fact, I bet they have answers for questions you haven't thought of yet.
Sincerely,

Ken May Executive Director

Four S.C. artists have been named FY2012 Individual Artist Fellows. This year's recipients are:
Each artist receives $5,000.
Fellowships recognize and reward the artistic achievements of S.C.'s exceptional individual artists. The S.C. Arts Commission board approves fellowships based on recommendations made by out-of-state panelists, who select fellows based solely on a review of anonymous work samples.
Next round of fellowships
Individual artists working in prose, poetry, dance performance, and choreography can apply for the FY2013 fellowship awards. Application deadline is Nov. 1.

Vessel No. 1 |
TRIENNIAL Revisited presents 18 artists representing the five S.C. Triennial exhibitions organized by the S.C. Arts Commission and presented at the S.C. State Museum between 1992 and 2004.
