Wow, there are so many upcoming opportunities that we have to send this newsletter two weeks earlier than usual! This issue is full of important links to grant information, professional development registration, and more. We feel like we're on the right track with the Artists' Ventures Initiative, as we're getting great feedback from the entrepreneurial development students and I've already heard from a half dozen folks who plan to apply for Artists' Ventures Grants. Take some time to check out the information, share it with your colleagues, and get involved. As always, please be in touch with me to share your good ideas and questions! |

FastTrac New Venture courses are offered throughout the state during
the fall. A schedule of those courses is available on the FastTrac Web site.
The cost is $145 if you register two weeks in advance; $195 is the regular
registration. For some courses, the two-week deadline is TODAY! For more information about FastTrac, please contact Mary
Dickerson at (843) 805-3110.
With FastTrac,
artists learn and interact with a group of aspiring artist and
non-artist entrepreneurs who are trying to put their ideas into action.
Participants also work with certified instructors who have start-up
business experience and who understand the benefits and pitfalls of
starting a new enterprise. |
Are you a candidate for an Artists' Ventures Grant?
As a part of the S.C. Artists' Ventures Initiative, the Arts Commission
has created a new grant program to fund new arts-base d businesses
developed by South Carolina artists. Proposals will be reviewed by an
advisory committee to include business people and experienced artist
entrepreneurs. The selected projects will become part of a "virtual
business incubator," which will bring grantees together three to four
times each year for discussion with and in-depth progress reviews by
the advisory committee. Grantees will also have access to the advisory
committee on an ongoing, as-needed basis for consulting on individual
challenges and needs.
Are you ready to start a new arts-based business, or are you ready to make a substantial change to your current business model? Check out the guidelines and give Katie a holler to discuss the opportunity further. Letters of Intent to Apply are due Nov. 20. |
Let the world know what you're doing -- submit event information to Arts Daily. You'll be listed on the Web site, and possibly featured on SC ETV Radio!

New Ideas SC offers $5K prize
SC Launch is offering up to $5,000 in start-up funding for the best new business idea entered in their "New Ideas SC" competition. There are five categories for consideration, and the "Wildcard" category is a great opportunity for your new arts-based business or service! The deadline to submit your idea is Sept. 21. This contest does not require a full business plan; visit the New Ideas SC Web site, answer some questions, and enter!
(Editorial note: I - Katie - think it would draw fantastic attention to the work of all artist entrepreneurs if we had a whole boat load of entries in this race. Y'all are smart and talented and these folks need to know what you're doing for South Carolina!)

Fellowship deadline approaches
Artists working in poetry, prose, acting and playwriting may apply for
2010-2011 Individual Artist Fellowship Awards from the S.C. Arts
Commission. Up to four fellowships of $5,000 will be awarded. The
deadline to apply is Oct. 1.
Fellowships recognize and reward the artistic achievements of
South Carolina's exceptional individual artists. Fellowship awards
are made through a highly competitive, anonymous process and are
based on artistic excellence only. The fellowship awards bring recognition
that may open doors to other resources and employment opportunities.
