Greetings! As we've shared with you over the past couple of months, LINC is committed to helping artists build satisfying, sustainable careers in S.C. by encouraging collaboration and providing training and resources for emerging artist entrepreneurs. The LINC retreat in May is all about collaboration and the possibilities within reach when we work together. With planning the retreat well in hand and registration hopping, we at the S.C. Arts Commission have turned out attention to the portion of LINC that provides entrepreneurial training for artists looking to solidify their business acumen.

Folks, I have been blown away by the good people in our state who have offered their time, expertise, and resources to you. Businesses, consultants, and institutes of higher education have stepped forward (in many cases, they've called us!) to say that they want to see artists succeed in South Carolina, and that they are willing to help make it happen. We are busy in meetings all over the state, but for now, plan on a few different offerings being made available over the summer and fall that will prepare you to approach the business aspects of your career with the same knowledge and skill you bring to the artistic aspects.

If you have not yet registered for the LINC retreat, make that happen by clicking here!  We look forward to seeing you soon.
Arts Council provides new opportunities in Beaufort County

Inspired by conversations at the initial LINC input session in 2007, the leadership of the Arts Council of Beaufort County set about creating partnerships that would increase studio and performance opportunities in their community. Read about their success in an interview with executive director J.W. Rone on the LINC blog.

The South Carolina Arts Commission is the state agency charged with creating a thriving arts environment that benefits all South Carolinians, regardless of their location or circumstances. Created by the South Carolina General Assembly in 1967, the Arts Commission works to
increase public participation in the arts by providing services, grants and leadership initiatives in three areas: arts education, community arts development and artist development. Headquartered in Columbia, S. C., the Arts Commission is funded by the state of South Carolina and by the federal government through the National Endowment for the Arts. For more information, visit South Carolina Arts or call 803.734.8696.
