The old saying "do what you do best." could possibly be the best business plan ever.
6 years ago we sat down to develop the Spa85 business plan. Our mission was to create an environment for clients that surpassed any salon experience they ever had. To make the client the VIP from their very first visit to every visit after. Along the way we tried some things that worked and probably a lot more then we would like to admit that didn't. But making mistakes is the best education you can get and if you are humble enough you will learn more than you can ever imagine.
Every chance I get I study our competition. No.... I don't send out spies to secret shop or make annoying telephone calls. I simply drive by or look at their ads in the paper. What I see speaks volumes to me based on the experiences we have been through. The experiences that put Spa85 on track to be the best "Hair" Salon and day spa we can be. Because our constant focus is providing the best styles, hair colour, or skin treatments you will never find jewelry, home goods, or clothing and hand bags. It's not that these are bad things to sell but they are a distraction to the core mission at Spa85.
We have sold the above mentioned products but it wasn't until I really paid attention to the saying "Do what you do best." and got rid of anything that didn't' have to do with our services, that Spa85 truly elevated to the next level. We are now able to focus our resources towards better education for our team of stylists and technicians and using only the highest quality products that produce phenomenal results. It also means that clients are coming in for one thing and one thing only, Great Service. It also makes for a much more comfortable environment as well, but that might just be my own opinion.
This will hopefully be the last week of our Stylist interviews. We have met many great applicants and we might have it narrowed down by Friday. So please remember if you see a new face help us give them a very warm welcome. They will probably be a little nervous at first but if they are on the Spa85 team you can be assured that they have a great deal of talent and you will see great things from them.
