There was a lot of controversy surrounding this years Oscars and it had nothing to do with wardrobe malfunctions or profanity or who won what. It had to do with being able to see it at all.

 

For the many that subscribe to cablevision, you know all too well what has happened to channel 7 and the lack thereof. This got me thinking about value and getting what you pay for and how many new clients we have seen so far this year come from neighboring salons or very well known salons in need of colour corrections or haircut fixes.

 

If you are following us on facebook you would have seen the two most recent makeovers we performed. The makeover of Wendy was a case where she got her hair colored at a well known salon here on Long Island and when she explained her dissatisfaction about the color they told her she would have to wait 2 weeks to come in to speak to a colorist and also told her that her hair would break if they were to try to correct it.

 

What a terrible experience. The management of this salon should be embarrassed that they acted this way towards this client. We understand that mistakes happen and sometimes communications break down and a client might not get exactly what they wanted, but it is our responsibility as professionals to stand behind our work regardless if they think our Picasso is a dud.

 

There is too much hype in this business, that sometimes it clouds the mind of the stylist. I often get asked by new clients "My stylist competes in many competitions and has won many awards. Do you have anyone who has won awards?". Now, hair competitions are great but an award can be given for anything. My response when anyone asks me about how good the stylists are at Spa85 is always "Our clients get stopped by strangers to find out who does their hair, has that happened with your current stylist?". I sound so conceded when I say it but it is the truth.

 

And that brings us back to what you get for what you  pay for at Spa85. Our team is dedicated to continued education and consistently keep ahead of the trends by being students of the fashion scene. And because they have the utmost confidence in their work, they are able to listen to their clients needs and produce amazing work. And if it turns out other than what the client wanted we are standing behind that client and making sure they leave happy and with healthy hair.

 

There once was a time when the stylist ruled the scene. What they said was golden and you waited months to get appointments. If you spoke up about the style you were given you might be banned from the salon. Those days are over and those old school mentality salons are going to get an uncomfortable wake up call when their chairs are empty.

 

This will be the first year that we will be participating in Spaweek this upcoming April.  We are anticipating to be fully booked so please consider booking your appointments now for April so we can accommodate every client.

 

Lastly, we want to remind you that we will have a photographer in house for your childs special events. If you are having your childs hair done for a special event please enjoy a complimentary photography sitting. This complimentary service is by appointment only.
