Don't do the same to your hair!
Just as important to the high level of ingredients and products we use when we professionally colour or style your hair, are the products you use at home after you leave Spa85 or any salon.
No one in their right mind would do what I mentioned in the example above because we know better. However that is a different story when it comes to salon products. What you might think is a "good for your hair" product because your favorite celebrity was in a commercial on TV for it, or you watched an infomercial where a team of stylists were working behind the scenes to achieve the desired look, or simply because an ad showed a before and after for it's results, may not be that good for your hair after all.
The fact of the matter is that products that are marketed for big box retail stores or by large corporations like Proctor and Gamble contain too many ingredients that are meant to preserve the product on the store shelf instead of preserving the quality of your hair. When you look at the ingredients of these "mass marketed" products the major ingredients are parabens, water and alcohol. They make great claims in their ads but they only have one agenda and that is to gain market share and increase sales. They don't care that you just spent over $200 on your hair hi-lites and colour and that their products will quickly wash out and oxidize this great new look of yours.
I always get a kick out of seeing a product being advertised as "preferred by professional salon stylists" or when they state that you can get salon quality. I actually take pride in the fact that they are giving me a compliment and validating that salons are much more qualified to provide you with the right products then a supermarket shelf is.
When we select a product to offer to our clients we scrutinize every aspect of that product including who else is selling it and how well it holds up to our standards of maintaining the quality of your style. You might be asking why it matters who else sells it. Well their is a major chain of salons here on Long Island that likes to divert salon quality products to supermarkets and discount chains. What most people that purchase these products from these sources do not realize is that they are purchasing products that might be past their expiration date or have lost their potency due to the time on the store shelf.
Salon products, especially products offered at Spa85 are made with mostly natural ingredients including botanicals and pharmaceutical grade aloe vera. These products are made in small quantities in order to maintain their potency and quality. And we know what type of hair you have so we are going to marry the product to your needs.
We often meet a new client and after their consultation quickly determine that their out of control hair that they complain about is mostly caused by the products they use at home. You might think you have dry hair but you might not realize that it is because the product that you selected on the shelf was drying out your hair or that instead of only using it once per week you are using it everyday. It is true that some of the products we sell or other salons sell might have a $4 or $5 premium over those of the supermarket or big box stores, but we are all in agreement that investing an extra $4 is much better than ruining a $200 salon style.
One more thing, and that is that we will always stand behind the work we do and we are always eager for you to let us know if something is not to your liking, but we will only guarantee the work we do when you only use the products we suggest you use when you leave our salon.
On a different subject, this will be the first year that we will be participating in Spaweek this upcoming April. We are anticipating to be fully booked so please consider booking your appointments now for April so we can accommodate every client.
Lastly, I am often asked by new clients how good are the stylists that work at Spa85. My response is always the same. " Our clients often get stopped by strangers to find out who does their hair". Well this past week 5 clients got stopped by strangers to find out who did their hair and nails so our new disclaimer is " Spa85 is fully responsible for you getting stopped by strangers to find out about your hair salon". You have been warned.

We are still looking for hair models for our upcoming hair makeovers. If you or someone you know is interested or in need of a brand new look please email a picture to makemeover@spa85.com. If you are chosen you will be given a complimentary hair style makeover and styling products. A value worth upwards of about $300. Please only serious submissions only. If you have already sent in your entry please allow us some time to sort through all submissions. We have received some great candidates and we are scheduling them as they are received.
Please make sure that you take advantage of the great promotions we have this month!
Thank you for your continued support, we look forward to seeing you soon.
