 January 2012
New Year and a New Look
We hope that everyone is having a happy holiday season. I just wanted to let you know a few things before you dive into the newsletter.

First, we're starting a kids oriented newsletter. It will have a listing of all the months children's programs as well as upcoming children's  books, dvds, and staff picks. To sign up just reply to this email.

Starting January 1st, our library system has mandated that anyone who wishes to check out an item must have their library card or an ID card present to do so. This has been done to protect patrons from having items mistakenly checked out to them. Although we don't necessarily agree that this rule is right for our community, we are still required to follow it.  If you are concerned that this might cause a problem for you, we can hold your card at the library so you don't have to worry about whether you have your library card or not.

Read for the Green: The Reviews are in!
James PatersonMiddle School: The Worst Years Of My Life by James Patterson
by angus87

I really enjoyed reading "Middle School: The Worst Years Of My Life. One of the reasons I could easily relate to this book was because I am in middle school too. Everything in this book is just like how my school is and how people would act. In this book there is a 12year old boy named "Rafe". He lives with his mom Jules, his sister Georgia and his future stepdad who is a human pig pretty much(you will see why in the book). The whole book is about an operation called "Operation RAFE" (Rules Arent For Everyone R.A.F.E) that he made with his imaginary friend named Leo. In his school's Code of Conduct, there are rules in there. His goal for the whole year is trying to break all those rules to impress a girl he likes named Jeanne Gilletta. I would definitely recommend this to kids in middle school and ages 11+

Meet Marie Grace by Sarah Masters BuckeyMeet Marie Grace
by Cordelia

This book was fun to read because I love all the American girl dolls and I always read a new book when it comes out.

The story is this: Marie Grace and her father move to new Orleans. Her father is a doctor. At first Marie Grace doesn't feel very welcome, and a snobby girl is very mean to her at school. But then she meets Cecile, and the two quickly become friends. I love at the end of the book when they go to a ball and play a trick. It made me want to read the next books. My favorite character is Cecile, because she is strong and daring. This book was very simply written and it had a simple plot, so it shouldn't be for girls who like suspense and drama.  I would recommend this book for girls who like other American girl doll books or just want a good book to read.

Book Discussion Group
Citizen Washington The next book for Margaret R. Quick book discussion group is

Citizen Washington by William Martin

He became the nation's first hero. ...But before that, George Washington was just a man. And in his youth, he was a man on the make. He wanted to serve the king, so he donned a red coat and fought the French. He loved another man's wife but yearned for status, so he married a rich widow. He dreamed of wealth, so he accumulated land and slaves. He accumulated enemies, too...

In Citizen Washington, one of those enemies--a newspaper publisher named Hesperus Draper--learns that Martha Washington has burned her husband's letters at his death. So Draper sets his nephew on a quest to find the truth about the letters and about the man himself.  The younger Draper meets a dozen people, from Mount Vernon slaves and Iroquois Indians to Jefferson and Adams and the other giants of the era, and they tell their own stories as they tell Washington's: from his callow youth, through the harrowing battles of the Revolution, to the first American presidency.

The book discussion group will meet Saturday, January 28nd, at 3:30pm. Let us know if you would like to order you a copy.
