Hello from Forests for Maine's Future.

We've trolled the 'net to find recent interesting forest-related stories. Among the ones we've highlighted:

The International Union for the Conservation of nature calls for more managed forests to protect peoples' livelihoods around the globe.

With millions of acres of forests in the southern U.S. vulnerable to development, the World Resources Institute says it's time to look at ecosystem services to ensure their future.

Billionaire media mogul John Malone's purchase of 900,000 acres of Maine forest is raising eyebrows. There are links to several stories about that on our website, including this one from the New York Times.

This is just a sampling of the links to forest-related stories we've add to the "in the news" section of our website just so far this month. There are links to news stories about the hoorah in Britain about forest sales, the U.N.'s Year of the Forest, and Maine Gov. Paul LePage's controversial plans for loosening environmental regulations. Check out these and others by clicking here.

Check out our January Fresh from the Woods feature on community forests and find out. (We have fixed that pesky problem that caused some readers to get an error message when they tried to link to the Fresh from the Woods feature last week.)

See you in the woods.
