Greg Walter and I have done a number of regional Pinot Noir dinners over the past two years. Recently we had lunch in Sonoma to discuss what direction our next dinner should take, and he suggested that we ask Greg La Follette to come and be our guest winemaker. I agreed right away, knowing it was a complete fantasy. No one gets a winemaker at the end of August, especially one as accomplished and busy as he. Little details such as ....harvest!! tend to get in the way.
 
To my delight and surprise, Greg La Follette responded with great enthusiasm, and opened up his private cellar to us. Many emails between the two Gregs' and myself finally resulted in the dinner we are presenting on Tuesday August 26th. As you can see from the menu, we will time travel to different vintages, and explore the nuances of terroir and winemakers imaginations. This is a dinner for the serious enthusiast, and we hope to see you here.   

 
 Our Wine Dinners are held in our private banquet room with no more than 30 guests, to insure a special evening for all.
Please make your reservations early, as dinners sell out quickly. A waiting list will be available when the event is fully booked.

Greg La Follette was born in Europe, growing up with an old-world view that wine is raised rather than "made". After studying ancient Burgundian techniques at UC Davis, he continued on-the-job studies at Beaulieu Vineyard as research viticulturist/enologist with wine master, André Tchelistcheff.
 
 La Follette then turned his talents to Flowers Vineyard & Winery where he was the winemaker and general manager, launching one of the most successful small Pinot labels to date. The winery he built at Flowers is still considered one of the very best gravity-flow, gas-assist green wineries in the world.
 
Greg is currently the owner/winemaker for Tandem Wines. This project combines his passion for making wine from the ground up, concentrating on meticulous farming from the finest vineyards, many of which he helped plant. His years of experience with Pinot Noir, and Sonoma vines in particular, have reached a zenith with the stunning wines from Tandem. 

Greg has turned his attentions to vineyard & winery consulting internationally. He has designed/redesigned 14 wineries worldwide (emphasis: "green" design), was consulting designing winemaker for the new UC Davis teaching winery and is involved in projects on 5 continents. These efforts have resulted in the #1 white wine of the year in Chile and two years in a row the #1 Pinot noir in South Africa, as voted by each of those countries' own vintners associations.

Greg Walter has been one of the leading wine journalists in America for the best part of three decades. Starting with the Wine Spectator during its infancy in San Diego in the early 80's, he spent six years as its President, until leaving in 1994 to pursue other consulting and publishing opportunities.
