President's Message

Rogerson Communities, along with Massachusetts Adult Day Services Association (MADSA) and other ADH program leaders, sprang into action in February and March to turn back Governor Patrick's proposed rate cuts to ADH programs. The proposed cuts, which would effectively decimate ADH programs which currently support more than 11,000 individuals statewide, would drastically increase preventable admissions to nursing homes - costing the state many more millions than proposed rate cuts would save. Rogerson Communities remains committed to working with our legislative leadership to understand that ADH programs are the best bang for the healthcare buck - and to remove proposed ADHP budget cuts from the 2012 budget. We know it's the only responsible decision to be made. James F. Seagle, Jr. President, Rogerson Communities

Adult Day Health Programs Revitalized
The Rogerson Roslindale Adult Day Health program (ADHP) maintains a proud legacy as one of the first ADHP's to open in Massachusetts in 1978. Housing two of Rogerson's four adult day health programs, and serving more than 170 disabled and frail adults each week, Rogerson Roslindale includes the secured Dementia Day program and the Rogerson Fitness FIRSTSM program.
With gratitude for the focused, charitable giving by many in our donor community, Rogerson Communities just completed a vital renovation of its Roslindale day program facilities. New colors, carpeting, lighting, window blinds, and beautiful donated artwork backdrop new furniture, and our comprehensive fitness program now includes a Wii gaming system for bowling and dancing. The nurses' treatment room has been re-designed to streamline a very busy area, and waiting one's turn is far more comfortable.
Participants are thrilled and proud of their new space, and welcome your visit. This refurbishment has brought joy to participants and staff alike, and we hope you will come see it for yourself. Please contact the staff (below) to schedule a tour at your convenience.

Farnsworth House Fitness Center Dedicated
Rogerson Communities was honored to pay tribute to the memory of a longtime friend to eldercare organizations, R. Marshall Schell. The Schell Fitness Center is the new home to the pioneering Rogerson Fitness FIRSTSM strength training and Healthy Rogerson wellness programs at Farnsworth House in Jamaica Plain. This dedication is a fitting representation of Marshall's commitment to providing the very best in advanced services for the elderly.
Participants in the new program have become avid fans of exercise and opportunities to live a healthier life. Says Tina Copeland, "It's amazing how those machines have helped me to feel strong." Adds Lillian Little, "I have learned so much about fitness and my body in such a short time."

Residents just can't get enough, and recently requested the addition of a third NuStep exercise bike. Operations of the Healthy Rogerson and Rogerson Fitness FIRSTSM programs are supported by grants and gifts from individual donors. Luckily, when Marshall Schell worked with Rogerson Communities to secure funding for the new strength training programs, he helped build in the ability to purchase equipment, and the NuStep is on its way.
For over two decades, it was a privilege to work with Marshall to secure important support from philanthropic institutions including the Charles H. Farnsworth Charitable Trust and The Boston Foundation. Together with the individuals and families Rogerson Communities serves, we owe Marshall a debt of gratitude that can never be paid in full.
