Style Bulletin
"Amaze with Accessories"
April 2012
Greetings!
I hope you enjoy this month's Style Bulletin. One quick note before you jump in: I had a bit of trouble enlarging photos this month, so if you'd like to see them more easily, look above to where it says "Having trouble viewing this email? Click here." Go ahead and click on the "Click here".  This will open up the newsletter in a larger format for easier viewing.  Thanks so much and enjoy!

MEN'S CORNER

I guess I'm in a bit of a shoe mindset when it comes to the guys these days, because this column (like last month's) is focused on footwear.

Click on the "7X7" link below to see the style descriptions by number.

Since we're in our "April showers" time of year, I thought it might be helpful to pass on a little guidance for the guys who need to invest in some waterproof footwear.  This article from 7X7 magazine provides some great options - from sneakers to galoshes.

It's a smart investment - why risk ruining leather shoes when there are other stylish choices?

(By the way, I have to tell you I saw a salesman at a store in San Francisco two weeks ago wearing these shoes I featured in last month's column. He really wore them well - only wish I had taken his picture to share with you!)

"The only thing that separates us from the animals is our ability to accessorize."    Clairee in Steel Magnolias

Well, this may or may not be true, but it's still one of my favorite quotes (of which there are many from that movie.)  Regardless, one of the easiest ways to update your wardrobe each season is with accessories.  Size itself isn't as much of an issue...they tend to be available in a variety of colors...and you can usually find them in a wide range of price points.  Let's take a look at how you can make your Spring/Summer wardrobe "pop" with some key accessories:

Shoes:  flats, loafers, espadrilles, wedges, peep-toes, platforms! There truly is something for everyone this season.  Whether you like a platform, a floral pattern, color block, metallic, lace detailing, neutrals, brights or pastels, even transparent - you can find them all.  I've found that the metallics and animal prints that I've invested in in past years have tended to endure as footwear trends, along with classic espadrilles and ballet flats. Find one (or two) that capture your imagination and they will up-to-date your look instantly!

Handbags are also an easy wardrobe update. Again, there are so many choices:  brights, pastels, neutrals, color-blocked, plus the prints (florals, tribals, animal prints). Don't forget canvas and straw for your more casual looks.

Bangles are still wildly popular this year.  Combine them in varying widths, colors, and textures, or go for one dynamic statement bracelet.  Experiment - spring/summer fashion is all about having some fun! Check out these combos:

Hats and headwear are all the rage now (thanks to last summer's Royal wedding, in large part.) Consider giving them a try - maybe a wide-brimmed straw hat tied with a colorful scarf?  Maybe just the scarf itself, tied turban or headband style? Speaking of headbands - how about a bejeweled or feathered one?

Are you ready to explore accessories?  I can help you add some new ones or go through your current collection and pull out the ones you can enjoy right now, maybe in combinations you've never considered before. Give me a call if you're ready to jump in!

While we all like to stay abreast of current trends, one of my functions as an image and wardrobe consultant is to help each client define how they can (or should not) incorporate current trends into their own wardrobe.  One of the most important aspects of this is ensuring that she stays true to herself - to her own style personality - and puts aside any notion of "perfection".  I encourage you to embrace experimenting with and incorporating accessories into your overall look - in a way that suits you and enhances your style.  Remember - we're not striving for perfection, but rather, for what works for you. Enjoy this wonderful season and have some fun.

By the way, I didn't find the turquoise jeans I mentioned in last month's newsletter, but I did find some rockin' royal blue ones - love them!  Let me know if there's a particular trend or accessory you're especially loving this season!

All my best to all of you!
