 Indiana Ministries Update

July 11, 2012 - Vol 4, Issue 14

The following article is the annual report presented by Dr. Randy Spence, Chair of the Church of God General Assembly and Ministries Council, to the General Assembly at the recent North American Convention held in Anderson.  Dr. Spence, who is also the Regional Pastor & Overseer in Ohio, provides invaluable insight into not only the church in North America, but also into the Church of God.  This is such an important document that I want to post it as the lead article in this edition of our Indiana Ministries newsletter.

Report of the Ministries Council Randy Spence

by Dr. Randall Spence

In 1991 in the North Atlantic, a "perfect storm" occurred.  This perfect storm was the result of the collision of three massive weather systems.  From the south came a hurricane, and from the north came an arctic storm.  The third force was a massive area of high pressure.  Together this collision of forces created a devastating package.  The resulting storm was so powerful that it created waves a hundred feet high.  The storm caught the Andrea Gail, a fishing vessel, in the open sea and resulted in the death of all the fishermen on board.  Sebastian Junger's book The Perfect Storm is a riveting account of what such a storm is like and for what it means to fishermen at sea.

This story forms for us the perfect metaphor for what has occurred in the North American culture within the past half century to create for the church such a "perfect storm."  Here, too, there have collided three massive forces, according to Richard Hamm in Recreating the Church.

9:45am - 4:00pm

Church at the Crossing, Indianapolis

Space is limited, register now!

Whenever you're not getting the results you're looking for, there is likely a difficult conversation that's preventing you from realizing success. This type of conversation can be discussion where the outcomes are critical, emotions run strong and opinions may vary.  These conversations (when handled poorly or ignored) could lead to strained relationships, conflict and dismal results.

This one day seminar teaches basic skills for creating alignment and agreement by fostering open dialogue around risky topics-at all levels of your church/organization.  By learning how to present and share ideas well (and encouraging others to do the same), you'll uncover the best ideas, make the best decisions, and then move forward with unity and commitment.

Outcomes of this seminar:

  • Improve teamwork and decision making
  • Build acceptance to new ideas and concepts
  • Resolve individual and group disagreements

This workshop is taught by Scott and Leisa McDonald and is for church staffs and church boards.  To read more about Scott & Leisa, click here.

Maximize the experience by bringing your entire team! Space is limited so register early to ensure space for your team.

Requirement: To best prepare for the seminar, please read the book Crucial Conversations book prior to attending the workshop.
