News Release: Disaster Relief in Southern Indiana
This past Friday, March 2, things changed in Henryville Indiana. A devastating tornado went through the town and many other small towns in southern Indiana.
The Church of God in Indiana does have a church congregation in Henryville, First Church of God, which is pastored by Rev. Jerald Leon Armstrong. Indiana Ministries spoke to him today. Pastor Leon relates that all parishioners are fine and the church building sustained some minor damage, but is overall in good condition. Pastor Leon told us that there is a strong Ministerial Association in the area and they would be meeting together this afternoon to discuss the next steps to helping their town and neighborhood get back on their feet.
The Monroe City First Church of God under the pastoral leadership of Rev. Mark Nielson, has a staff member, Rev. Bob Morrison, Missions and Outreach Pastor, on site in Henryville to help in any way they can: Rev. Bob Morrison serves as Director of The Three Nails Project (TNP) mission house in Monroe City. The TNP disaster team responds to all disasters including local, regional and national locations. They are comprised of Firefighters, EMS, medical people, and various skill levels as the need indicates. The recovery phase of each disaster is after the first 24 hours when teams are needed for debris removal, chainsaw crews, supplies and homeowner assistance. The churches provide the largest percentage of volunteers for the TNP mission teams in this second phase of disaster response.
Bob has served on rescue/recovery at Ground Zero in NYC 2001, Hurricane Katrina-Gulfport, MS and Biloxi, MS, Birmingham, AL tornado zone, Joplin, MO tornado area, Harrisburg, IL tornado, Henryville, IN and many others. The Three Nails Project website: http://threenailsproject.weebly.com/index.html
