Journey Church News - December 2011

Church Planting in Australia

Christmas

Christmas was a great success thanks to the help of Spread the Word. Thanks to their assistance, we were able to hold a family worship gathering and fun day. Flyers were distributed twice to 6000 homes. Jumping Castles, Face Painting, Crazy Hair, Sausage Sizzle and Hangi (Maori cooking from New Zealand) provided loads of fun. The worship was uplifting, and it was a great opportunity to make new contacts and develop relationships. 70 people turned out, which was a huge boost after a difficult few months.

Holding the event on the grounds of the new facility was a great way to advertise our Sunday morning worship time to the community.

"It's Not a Secret!"
by Dan Reiland
dan reiland...6/13/11
Jerry Robertson is a real estate agent, motorcycle rider, and a cool guy. But let me tell you how everyone knows him. He leads the coffee ministry at 12Stone Church®. Jerry wears a nametag that says "Chaplain of Caffeine." Thousands of people get their caffeine fix at church and they love Jerry for it! He recently lost a lot of weight and I asked him how he did it. I leaned in and asked him in such a way that might suggest his answer would reveal a secret. A secret that was powerful and well guarded, in fact, known only to Tibetan monks and a select few others. Can you guess what he said? "Well, I started eating less and exercising more, and I've been doing that for a long time." I almost felt like he was holding out on me! But there is no secret to weight loss. It's always the same, burn more calories than you consume, and you will lose weight - get up the next day, press repeat.

Pastors and church leaders ask me every week about the secret to church growth. They don't always use that word, but they are asking for the "insider scoop" that apparently no one else knows.

THE ULTIMATE BETRAYAL

by Rev. Alfred H. Ells, M.C.

Sadly, we are hearing more and more stories of allegations of sexual abuse of minors by church leadership. Some of you may have even  been personally connected to one of these tragic occurrences. It is an unfortunate reality that today's pastors must be prepared for how to handle these delicate and hurtful situations. This month's article provides advice that protects all involved: the victim, the accused and the church as a whole.

Financial Freedom Fund Logo In Min Logo

With the support of the Lilly Endowment, Indiana Ministries has assembled a group of Christian professionals and the financial support to help both pastors and their congregations discover financial freedom in these difficult times.

Now there is help for both pastors and congregations as they strive to find financial freedom.  There are some clear "Best Practices" that can help pastors and congregations to live out God's plans for their financial health.

The Financial Freedom Fund has been made possible by a generous grant from the Lilly Religious Endowment.  It provides financial assistance and professional consultants to pastors and congregations in three areas:

  • Pensions
  • Educational Debt
  • Health care reimbursement arrangements

Guidelines for participation in one or all of these programs will be shared at the Best Practices for Pastor and Congregational Financial Health Conference on March 24, 2012. Thus far, the FFF has awarded 39 grants totaling almost $87,000 in assistance!

For More Information on the Best Practices Conference on March 24th, please download the below letter and registration form.

Online Registration will be available soon. Please visit out FFF page on our website at: http://www.indianaministries.org/#/financial-freedom-fund
