Heritage Reflections, Part 2doug new
by Dr. Doug Talley

In my last article I shared personal reflections drawn from a book recently published by the Historical Society of the Church of God titled The Gospel Trumpet Years: 1881-1961.  In this coffee table size book filled with photographs Dr. Doug Welch and Dale Stultz provide a historical look at the first one hundred years of the Church of God (Anderson, IN) and the role that the Gospel Trumpet played in its formation and development.

I concluded my article by sharing a question I've been asking myself as I read the book: "What is the key conviction(s) that drove our early leaders?  What were they so passionate about at the core of their beings that they gave their lives to it?"

The conclusion typically reached is they were passionate about holiness and unity.  I'm wondering if the focus on holiness and unity could have been the expression of a deeper passion that was driving them and if that passion would have taken on a different expression if they lived in a different time.

INDIANA MINISTRIES YEAR END GIVING INFO

As 2011 draws to a close, our budget giving from churches is running well behind 2010 levels through the end of November. We are also running approximately $10,000 less in church giving as compared with the same period in 2010.  As of November 30, 2011, we are running below budget level in gifts received, and, fortunately in expenses.  Any financial gifts will help to bridge that difference.  Please check your church's giving records to ensure that all giving to Indiana Ministries is up to date. Another way you could be of assistance is to give an extra year end "bonus" gift.

We want to thank the supporting churches for their faithfulness in giving. Your dollars have allowed us to do ministry in a variety of ways and to make a difference in individual lives and churches in the state of Indiana.  Thank you for your partnership with us!

We wish you and yours a VERY MERRY CHRISTMAS!

Completing the Pastor's Form W-2

By Dr. Julie Nance

Tax time is stressful for everyone but especially for pastors. Their tax returns are unique because of the pastor's dual employment status. Pastors are employees of the church for federal income tax purposes but self-employed for Social Security and Medicare purposes. If the pastor's Form W-2 isn't completed correctly to reflect this dual status, it can become very difficult for them to accurately prepare their tax return.

When completing the pastor's Form W-2, keep the following in mind:
