Idea Buffet by Jeff Matas

 

One of my favorite bloggers, Tim Challies, writes an occasional "a la carte" blog where he posts links to interesting blog posts, news stories, videos and photo sites on the web. I love reading his "a la carte" posts because I can choose the items that interest me. The format of today's article has its roots in Challies' "a la carte" blog style; I'm calling it an "Idea Buffet." A buffet is defined as a "a meal consisting of several dishes from which guests serve themselves." My goal is to give you a buffet of tasty ideas that have come my way from various sources: conferences, Internet, books, etc. Remember it's a buffet, so take a look at what's offered; sample what looks good to you and take what you want.

I think one of the hardest parts about my call is the title.

 

"Pastor."

 

The word doesn't sit well with me.

It never really has.

I fully realize it's my issue.

But, I just don't like it.

 

So, I did some digging. Turns out that our English form of the word pastor comes from the Latin pascere which translates more literally as "to feed or to graze." Perhaps an appropriate metaphor for the shepherd analogy of what my role includes... perhaps also a cause for the issue at hand.

 

When Doug asked me to write an article on the issue of people "not feeling fed" and how we handle it at Crosspoint, I had a completely different starting point in mind that this understanding of the call that many of us hold dear to our hearts.
