Indiana Ministries Update

January 31, 2011 - Vol 3, Issue 3

Important Updates and Info     by Dr. Doug Talley

I am thrilled to announce that Rev. Jeff Matas is joining the Indiana Ministries staff as State Pastor of Church Health! Jeff has been serving the Madison Park Church of God as Senior Associate for the past five years. Prior to that he served as lead pastor in three CHOG congregations and has solid experience leading churches in becoming outward focused and in launching a new life cycle. Jeff has been serving on the Indiana Ministries Consultation and Coaching Team and has been very involved in this ministry focus.

Healthy Growing Churches is a tribe of CHOG pastors and leaders who are committed to networking towards the accomplishment of the Great Commission. The HGC Leadership Launch is February 23-25 in Orlando, Florida. The inaugural leadership launch features Reggie McNeal, Paul Borden, Al Ells, and Jim Griffith. This will be a fantastic opportunity to spend time in breakout groups with each of these leaders, plus plenary sessions. Jeff and I will both be present. We hope you can join us. Click here to register. If you only have dollars for one training event this year, this is THE one to attend.

Vision 2015 introduced that we are expanding our credentialing process in Indiana to focus on leadership development. The initial step in the formation of a Ministry Institute (at O & L Retreat) is February 26th when I will be leading a morning session on Understanding Yourself in which I'll be explaining how various tools (DiSC, Emotional Intelligence, Kilmann Conflict Mode) can help you better understand how God has wired you for ministry. This class is also open to currently credentialed pastors and lay leaders. For more information about this class and the afternoon class, click here or contact Jenene Lighty.

Indiana Ministries is committed to providing quality training for pastors and interested lay leaders. Two additional training opportunities in the near future include:

1. A phone training event with Healthy Growing Churches on "Unpacking Your Call." These one-hour events are helpful and very affordable. Click here for more information.

2. A workshop sponsored by Indiana Ministries on people flow and assimilation titled "Closing the Back Door While Keeping the Front Door Open." Lonnie Bullock of New Church Specialties will leading this workshop. Pastors and lay leaders can attend for $25 including lunch. This is FREE for all SHAPE pastors. Click here and then scroll down for more information.

Your financial gifts in 2010 have enabled Indiana Ministries to move forward in its mission to empower and resource local churches in accomplishing their purpose.                Read more

"Unpacking Your Call"

Most of us spend the first half of our lives trying to maximize our gifts and, the second (most productive) phase of ministry: fulfilling our call. So, how do you Unpack Your Call?

Your calling is wired into you by the Lord. That calling is sacred but can also be a source of pain. Often, when people are critical of you, they are unwittingly critical of your calling. Knowing your calling can protect you from regrettable decisions and can open your future.

Your calling will determine:

  • Where you will be most effective
  • The kinds of ministry you should and should not consider
  • How you "fit" in the body of Christ
  • The venues you need to fulfill your calling
  • Decisions much deeper than you think
  • Your level of satisfaction

To register, email Mimi and pay online.  Only $5 for Indiana pastors. You will be considered to be registered once Florida CHOG Ministries receives your payment.

FFF Logo3RD AND FINAL BEST PRACTICES CONFERENCE - APRIL 9TH

Pastors, we don't want you to miss out on this awesome opportunity. By attending this one day conference with at least one lay leader from your church you can become eligible to apply for financial assistance in the areas of educational loans, healthcare and/or pension.

Your church also benefits because the leader(s) that attends will hear information that can greatly affect their financial practices. All of this is possible because of a grant from the Lilly Foundation. We are in our final year of the grant, so please take advantage of this wonderful chance to apply for assistance.

Resulting from the past two Best Practices Conferences that were held, there have been 35 grants awarded and over $37,500.00 distributed to assist Indiana pastors with educational loans, healthcare and pension. Those who are participating are overwhelmed and extremely grateful for the help they have received.

You can read more about the Financial Freedom Fund/Lilly Grant by checking it out on our website. You will soon be receiving an email with registration and more information. For now, mark your calendar and recruit your lay leader (the treasurer or a board member are the most ideal choice). The meeting will last from around 8:30 or 9:00 am until around 4:00 pm at the Indiana Ministries office.

Contact Cindy Talley at ctalley@indianaministries.org for more information. Hope to see you April 9th!

Annual Pastors' Wives Retreat Coming May 13-15, 2011

Ladies, mark your calendars for a relaxing getaway with other pastors' wives just like you. Friday evening we'll gather at Camp Camby (just southwest of Indy) and will be having FREE haircuts, getting acquainted, laughing and hanging out. Saturday will offer a couple times of worship together with the bulk of the day spent in Nashville, Indiana exploring all the wonderful shops and restaurants! The annual Birthday Party will be Saturday evening. Sunday morning will be our "church" and you'll be on your way home by noon.

If you have never attended a wives retreat and you're a little nervous, please be assured that it is a very low-key weekend with no pressure...it's just a bunch of gals who like to hang out together away from the everyday stresses of home and church.
