PRAYER:  The Foundational Outreach Strategy           by Dr. Doug Talley

I believe the key to missional effectiveness in the local church is prayer.  A congregation can have bridge events to draw in new people, be filled with people who invite people, do acts of ministry and service in the community, and have the best assimilation program in town, but prayer is the underlying element that makes outreach work.  Don't stop doing the missional things.  Just make sure they are driven by prayer.

When I lead a church consultation, one of the first recommendations is to establish a foundation of praying for people who don't know Christ yet.  I'm finding that the prayer times in churches and in the lives of individual Christians usually focus on praying for sick people and various personal needs of those in the congregation.  That is important.  Unfortunately, I often find that praying for the community and lost people who need Christ is omitted from their prayers or just given a polite footnote.  I rarely hear anyone pray with passion for people who need Christ in their lives.

Pastors' Wives Shopping Trip to Chicago
October 22-23, 2010

Do you like to hang out with other pastors' wives? Do you need to do some Christmas shopping? Do you just need to get away with the girls for a couple of days?
