Can you believe how quickly this year has gone by? For me this has been a year of movement, challenges, transformation, losses, renewal and a deeper spiritual connection.
I am in Indianapolis, Indiana as I write this to you. Did I ever think I would be in a cold, icy, snowing place again after living in Florida for 19 years? Definitely not. Burrrrrrrrr, baby it's cold outside. I know it was by choice that I came to Indy as they call it, however when I said yes to the opportunity I did not take into account all of the consequences of the yes.
I think this is something that may happen for some of us. We make decisions that sound good or look good; however we do not see the whole picture. Sometimes we may not be able to see the entire pictures but we can look beyond our immediate response.
Where am I going with all of this? I believe in order for us to really have the things that we desire, we need to first take 100% responsibility for the decisions we make, then we need to be conscious of how those decisions will impact us, not just in the moment, but in the future. I know that all we have is this moment however, this moment can impact our future. I remember my mentor Eric Butterworth had a saying on his daily morning radio show, "we build our new tomorrows on the sites we plan today".
What sites are you planning today that will build your new tomorrow?
As for me, I am taking time to think about this very powerful and memorable year. I am taking time to consciously decide what I want and what I do not want. I am taking time to be present to what is happening in the moment. I am taking time to let those individuals that are in my life know how much I appreciate, love and value them.
I am taking time to focus on what worked for me this year and begin to build on that. I am taking time to thank all those who served our country and I am taking time to appreciate myself for who and what I am.
I will allow myself to take 100% responsibility for how I think, what I think and where I choose to put my energies. And to keep things in perspective, I will remember the theory of Nobel Prize winner Ilya Prigogine. Basically, he found that order arises out of chaos. So when things are chaotic I know that order will follow and that which I desire will be forthcoming.
And finally I will allow myself to appreciate the very small things that I have taken for granted.
