SPRING IS HERE, AND WHERE ARE YOU?
Spring is here; can you feel it in the air? As I think about Spring I think about newness, an opportunity to begin again, a fresh start if you will. The buds are beginning to bloom; we get motivated to spruce up things.
As we enter the second quarter of the year, and the ideas of newness is all around us, this might be a great time to think about where you are in your NEW YEARS resolution. Have you moved in the direction you intended at the beginning of the year? Have you changed your course? Or have you given up all together? No matter where you are, spring is a great time to re-evaluate and recommit.
Are you able to spring forward or are you still in the throws of the winter like some parts of the United States? You can still prepare yourself as you look around and see what is happening everywhere else, you can surely know that spring is just around the corner.
The Japanese equate the passing of life and impermanence to the changing of seasons. The passage of time as seen in the seasonal cycles is a metaphor for life's fleeing moments that can never be captured again.
If you are still in the winter of your life, things may still look bleak, gloomy and dark. Or you may be hibernating knowing exactly the right time to emerge from your sleep. This is the perfect time for contemplation and reflection as you will gradually move into your spring.
Springtime is a time for cleaning out the old and preparing for the summer. A time when you are transformed like a caterpillar is transformed into a beautiful butterfly after a time in a quiet, warm, safe space, a cocoon. Are you ready to spread your wings and fly?
Here are some inspired actions you can take to transform your life today and recommit to your intention/resolutions:
1. Clean Sweep- Do house cleaning, clear out your body, mind and spirit. Cleaning you home could be a metaphor for clearing you mind and spirit. I was told as a child that "cleanliness is next to Godliness". What that means to me now is freedom. When we have a lot of clutter around us it bogs us down in ways we are not even consciously aware of. Take the "Clean Sweep" quiz and see where you are in your life.
2. Let Go-Release- Gandhi says: "It is our attachment that bring us pain". What do you need to let go of? Are there articles, clothing, papers, books, cd's, etc., that you have had for over a year or maybe never used? Donate them; there are many individuals that would be happy to receive your gift. Keeping things around that are not in use can cause stagnation in our lives, especially our finances. Open up, release, give and let things flow.
3. Act Now- How have you been procrastinating? What is just ONE thing that you have put on the back burner or gave up on that you can recommit to today? If you take that one step it will infuse you with power and energy. ACT NOW!
4. Random Acts of Kindness-What is one action you can take to be kinder to yourself? Then think about three people in your life, and perform one random act of kindness for them. We often think of random acts with people we do not know, and may forget those that are closest to us, especially ourselves.
6. Get You Financial House In Order- April 15 has come and gone. Were you prepared for the tax season? Have you submitted your taxes yet? It is till not too late you can file for an extension if you have to. If you have completed that tedious and challenging yearly responsibility then celebrate. Be proactive, commit to starting the new tax year by organizing yourself. Get what you need for 2008 ready month by months so that when April 2009 rolls around things will go effortlessly. And yes, save at lease10% of that "extra money" you will be receiving from the government this year.
7. Revisit/Revise-Pull out your intentions/ resolutions for 2008 and look at them with "New Eyes". How can you move forward and transform your life? What do you need to leave behind? What challenges do you have? What successes have you had? Rewrite your intentions and resolutions and get support by hiring a coach, work with a buddy (I conduct a weekly Resolutions Buddy Group that meets every Wednesday 7:00 PM - 7:45 PM EST. It's FREE, come join us) or if you need more in-depth work hire a therapist, and remember "it's never too late to create in 2008". You can do it!
8. Affirm You Success- Develop an affirmation for yourself that reflects that which you desire to achieve for the balance of 2008. Read it several times a day. Keep it with you wherever you go, let it be your mantra for your life and for your success.
