Environmentally Sound Innovation
All of Eco-Tec?s designs are geared towards reducing

What is an APUŽ?
The APUŽ is a fully automated acid
purification unit that uses a unique process to
separate dissolved metallic salts from acid. The acid
is continuously purified for improved process quality
and consistency.
Eco-Tec?s APUŽ
system has become a standard in several industries
including aluminium
anodizing and stainless
steel pickling.
There are hundreds of Eco-Tec APUŽ systems
installed in over forty different countries around the
world. Today, almost every new factory built for these
operations incorporates an APUŽ.
How does an APUŽ protect the environment?
The Eco-Tec APUŽ provides a way to recover and
recycle spent acids used in the production and
treatment of metals. Large amounts of mineral
acids?including sulphuric, hydrochloric, nitric,
phosphoric and hydrofluoric?are used in both the
primary extraction of metals as well as their
subsequent finishing and treatment.
In years gone by, these acids were discharged directly
to the environment, resulting in severe pollution of
rivers and lakes. More recently, spent acids have
been neutralized with alkalis such as caustic soda or
lime. However, neutralization does not completely
eliminate the impact on the environment as lime
consumption adds to the release of carbon dioxide.
By employing an APUŽ, more than 90% of a spent
acid solution can be recovered and reused.
How is the APUŽ Innovative?
Mineral acids are among the cheapest chemicals
available. As a result, in the past, it was difficult to find
a cost effective process that can be used to recover
them. The Eco-Tec APUŽ uses NO chemicals,
almost no energy in its operation, and is highly cost
effective.
The APUŽ can be used to economically recover the
most inexpensive acids. Paybacks on capital
investment, through the value of recovered acid and
reduced waste treatment expenditures, are frequently
less than two years.
