In recent years, sustainable construction has been growing by leaps and bounds and has become a part of many of the services now offered by contractors. Although these services allow people to live and work in a healthier environment, reduce energy consumption and reduce operating costs, they can tend to heighten existing professional liability risks. Jeff Slivka discusses this topic in his article titled, "Inexperience and Unproven Products: The Risks of Sustainable Construction," which was recently published in the November 2011 issue of Risk Management. The article discusses some of the risks that contractors need to keep in mind as the sustainable construction area of their business continues to grow.
In addition to a discussion of some of the sustainable construction risks, the article raises some issues presented by the new Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design (LEED) certification.
