Building Information Modeling (BIM), digitized representations of the building process from the ground up, is used by the design team and contractors before construction actually begins, typically on design-build projects. However, when designers and builders do not use BIM correctly, liability issues can crop up. Mitch Cohen, P.E. Assistant Vice President at New Day Underwriting Managers discusses this topic in his article "Raising the Risk," which was recently published in Risk and Insurance magazine. In his article, Mitch focuses on the following:
- Provides an overview of BIM usage
- Presents a real-life example of project using BIM and the liability exposures that surfaced on that project
- Discusses how professional liability risk increases with the use of BIM and can be managed
- Discusses how Contractor's Professional Liability policies can help.
