    forest fire

Burning logs and snags rolling down the steep slopes below the main fire can cause the fire to spread. In other areas fire is only creeping around in leaf litter, pine needles, and brush.

A 50 acre fire has been burning since Sunday afternoon approximately 1 mile from the Abrams Creek Campground in Blount County, TN.

Near vertical terrain, pockets of dead pines killed by pine beetles, and dry conditions are combining to make the fire hard for the 17 National Park Service firefighters to contain.

Little Bottoms Trail and Hatcher Mountain Trail, as well as Backcountry Campsite #17 are currently closed.

All other areas of the park, including the Abrams Creek Campground, are operating as usual.
