The following items were discussed at the June 14 MEC meeting:

• SGH has been redesignated as a Magnet facility demonstrating nursing excellence.
• SGH has finalized its application for the next Joint Commission survey and the window period for the survey will end on March 31, 2012.
• Interviews for the position of Director of Quality Improvement are ongoing.
• Members were reminded of the importance of confidentiality regarding peer review issues. Hallway discussions about cases that were presented in peer review supervisory settings are inappropriate.
• Proposed revisions to the Medical Staff Bylaws were discussed and a ballot has been sent to the members of the Active Staff. The proposed revisions relate to the medical staff dues structure and the updated 805 reporting requirements.
• The Nominating Committee presented three names for the position of MEC Member-at-Large 2012 and 2013 - Drs. Margaret Elizondo, Dimitri Sherev and Suman Sinha. Members of the Active Staff have been sent a notice of this slate of nominees. Ballots will be sent in October (after the period for potential additional nominations is completed).
• 350+ SGH leaders attended a one-day On-Stage leadership training.
• The City of La Mesa has approved their portion of the Diagnostic and Treatment Center and power plant projects.
• The parking lot behind the cafeteria will be shut down beginning July 1 in preparation for construction of the new power plant. Physician parking adjacent to the Women's Center will not be affected.
• The patient satisfaction survey results were reviewed and physicians were reminded to sit with their patients and even to take a nurse with them as they round.
• Physician handwashing compliance is slightly down - an opportunity for improvement.
