The following issues were discussed at the MEC meeting on February 8, 2011:

• The MEC is exploring options, working with UCSD, to offer a confidential mental health and well-being assessment service for physicians who may be dealing with personal and emotional challenges.
• In her continuing effort to hear medical staff concerns and issues, CEO Michele Tarbet will attend medical staff supervisory committee meetings on a rotating schedule.
• Under the direction of the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services (CMS), Recovery Audit Contractors (RACs) periodically audit medical records to assure appropriate hospital billing. 100-200 charts will be reviewed each month. Financial implications to both the hospital and physicians could be significant. Documentation guidelines will be made available.
• A C-section was filmed at SGH and will air on an upcoming episode of "The Doctors."
• Medical staff members were offered the opportunity to participate in a Leadership Academy - eight sessions over a two-year period. Information has been sent to all physicians. Please call Medical Staff Services for details.
• The Surgical Steering Committee is focusing on on-time starts for 7:30 cases. Physicians who develop a pattern of being late are in danger of losing block time. The Late for Surgery policy has been sent to all surgeons and anesthesiologists.
• Overall CPOE (computerized order entry) is 97%.
• Medical staff members were reminded of their responsibiliy to do an admission ROMACC.
