  • Continuous Oxygen Saturation Monitoring
  • There have been a few questions regarding continuous oxygen saturation monitoring outside of the ICU. Here's a brief overview of some options.

The PCUs on 4 West and 5 West can monitor oxygen saturation remotely via the tele technicians, which could alert nursing if a reading were to drop below MD parameters, etc. As far as the other PCUs (4 East, 5 East) and Acute Care Units (2 East, 3 East) are concerned, nursing can put a SPO2 monitor in the room (with MD order or a nursing standardized procedure), which would alarm in the event of a desaturation. These monitors are not remotely monitored, but the alarms are very audible. Additionally, nursing staff on these units could monitor these patients up to every 1 hour for a pre-defined time period (usually up to 24 hours) and then every 2 hours thereafter.

We're excited about this speaker!!! The Three Chiefs recently attended a COS Boot Camp and they knew you would enjoy one of the presentations so much that they invited the speaker to bring his thoughts about generational differences between our medical staff members to the entire medical staff! This will definitely stimulate some lively discussion.
