The Medical Executive Committee met on January 11, 2011. Below is a summary of approved items and other issues of interest:

• Podiatrists may complete the patient's medical history and physical for their own procedures.
• Cerner Powerplans approved were PCU Insulin Infusion, WHS Anesthesia Postoperative, Urology Postoperative, Anti-emetics Common.
• Speaking for the Happiness Committee, Dr. Bullock invited input regarding speakers for the General Medical Staff meetings.
• 2-East is now being renovated and the patients have been moved to 2-South or 2-North while that work is being done.
• Handwashing audits indicate that MD compliance has dropped and that there is opportunity for improvement.
• Administration continues to address "throughput" concerns. Physicians are asked to make every effort to discharge patients early in the day.
• Due to renovations, the 2-East pharmacist is now working on the Brier Patch campus.

The Three Chiefs recently attended a COS Boot Camp and they knew you would enjoy one of the presentations so much that they invited the speaker to bring his thoughts about generational differences between our medical staff members to the entire medical staff! This will definitely stimulate some lively discussion.

Richard Corlin MD FACP

Dr. Corlin is the Past President of the American Medical Association (AMA) and Past President of the California Medical Association (CMA). He has also served as Speaker of the House of Delegates of both the AMA and the CMA and as Chairman of the Board of Audio Digest. He is in private practice as a gastroenterologist in Santa Monica, California.
