At its most recent meeting, the Medical Executive Committee reviewed/approved the following items:
- Effective January 1, 2011, all applicants to the SGH Medical Staff shall either be board certified or actively engaged in the board application and certification process. THIS REVISION WILL NOT AFFECT CURRENT MEMBERS or physicians who have already submitted their application. This revision was also approved by a vote of the Active Staff and by the Governing Board. (For information, the complete revision is printed below.)
- The Happiness Committee continues to meet monthly on the first Tuesday at 5:30 pm in CCRA. All medical staff members are welcome to attend the meetings.
- A position for Chief Medical Officer has been posted and is available on the Sharp Intranet (under Careers).
- The Cerner go-live far exceeded expectations and 85% of the orders received in the first week were done via Cerner.
"All practitioners who apply for membership after the effective date (January 1, 2011) shall be certified by a member of the American Board of Medical Specialties or by the American Board of Osteopathic Specialties or by the American Board of Podiatric Surgery or by the American Board of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery, or another board with equivalent requirements, or shall be actively engaged in the board application and certification process. Every applicant to the Medical Staff who is not board certified shall sign a statement at the time of application attesting that he/she is qualified and shall attain certification within thirty-six (36) months or within the timeframe permitted by the American Board of Medical Specialties. Any individual who does not attain board certification within thirty-six (36) months of appointment to the Medical Staff or within the timeframe permitted by the American Board of Medical Specialties may request a waiver. The individual requesting a waiver bears the burden of demonstrating that his or her qualifications are equivalent to board certification. The MEC may recommend that the Governing Board grant a waiver in exceptional cases after considering the qualifications of the individual and the best interests of the Hospital and the community it serves. The granting of a waiver in a particular case is not intended to set a precedent for any other individual. No individual is entitled to a waiver or to a hearing if the Board determines not to grant a waiver. A determination that an individual is not entitled to a waiver is not a "denial" of membership or clinical privileges. Failure to obtain board certification in the timeframes noted above or to be granted a waiver in the timeframes noted above will be considered as a voluntary resignation from the medical staff."
The Medical Executive Committee would also like to remind all medical staff members that the annual Holiday Party is scheduled for Tuesday, December 7, at 6 pm at the Mission Valley Marriott. SPOUSES ARE WELCOME!
