New D-Dimer Test |
|
CHANGES IN: REPORTING UOM (units of measure)
NORMAL REFERENCE RANGE
DVT/PE NEGATIVE PREDICTIVE VALUE
Sharp HealthCare Hospital clinical laboratories started using a new quantitative high-sensitivity
D-Dimer assay on Thursday, October 14, 2010.
The new assay is still orderable as D Dimer.
The reporting units are in ng/mL and are different from the previous assay.
The reference range for this new assay is 0-243 ng/mL.
The negative predictive value (NPV) for DVT and PE has a clinical cut-off of 230 ng/mL.
This interpretive statement will be attached to each result:
Patients with a low suspicion or risk of DVT or PE may have D-dimer levels of less than 230 ng/mL that should be interpreted in light of other clinical indicators. D-dimer testing is not indicated in patients with a high probability of DVT or PE. Elevated D-dimer levels can be found in a number of
conditions such as pregnancy, infection, inflammation, DIC, and carcinoma.
This new assay utilizes improved turbidometric methodology, and is a fast, sensitive and accurate quantitative assay for D-Dimer. In addition, this test allows more specific D-Dimer detection, and is less effected by interfering substances, such as Rheumatoid factor. Our in-house correlation has shown that this assay is equivalent in to the ELISA-based assay currently in use.
Should you have any questions about these changes, please feel free to contact the SGH laboratory at 619-740-4492.
