  • A Message from Rina Jain MD, Chief of Staff
  • Dear Colleagues,

What to Expect When You're Expecting (Cerner)

As you know, Cerner is coming to life on October 3, 2010. As its due date draws near, the Cerner Implementation Team will be providing training classes starting August 15. (The schedules will be posted soon!) Please sign up so that you will be ready for computerized physician order entry. Don't forget to do your deep breathing exercises as you try to navigate through the new system. Remember that a lot of nurturing and work has been put forth by your colleagues and the entire Cerner team during the gestation.

After Jan. 2, 2011, paper-based orders will neither be accepted nor processed. Nursing will not be entering your orders for you (unless you are giving a telephone order, there is an emergency or possibly even a glitch in the system). For orders that you currently hand-write, you will need to enter them via Cerner. Think of all the ink that will be saved, not to mention trees (or at least twigs and branches). BONUS - It will reduce phone calls from nursing asking for clarification of illegible orders.

All active and provisional members of the medical staff will have ample opportunity for training, and additional support will be provided by the Cerner Team during its infancy. It will be a big change as we welcome this little bundle of joy into our professional lives. We expect that Cerner will experience the usual growing pains, the trials and tribulations of adolescence, and in the end, we anticipate that it will become a productive member of our Grossmont family.

It takes a village to raise a child. The hospital will provide that village with lots of support staff from Nursing and Information Systems to help us in our quest to be Cerner-iffic. It's time to get Cerner-fied!

Please don't hesitate to call Lesley Bradley or me if you have any questions.

    Thanks,

    Rina
