Holiday Outreach - one more week!
A simple way to give back to the community
We are currently below last year's donation amount for the Holiday Outreach program. This program is organized by the College Park PTSA and provides extra help to College Park families in need this holiday season. We would like to provide each of these families with a gift card to assist in making their holiday special. But we need your help! Any amount is greatly appreciated and will certainly make a difference to the families at our school.

If you would like to help by donating to the "Holiday Outreach" program, please make a check in any amount payable to CPHS/PTSA , then write "Holiday Outreach" on the memo line of your check and drop off in the office or mail to:

Looking for something to do tonight? How about the College Park Coffee House?
Join us for Coffee House on Tuesday, December 13 from 6:30 to about 8:00pm in the multi-use room. Coffee House is a completely student-run activity in which College Park students showcase their artistic abilities.

Students perform with bands, or with friends, singing mostly acoustic music, creating a cozy "coffee house" kind of a feel. The art classes and photography classes display their latest works, and sometimes drama students read poetry. It's a big celebration showcasing the creativity of our peers.

A $2.00 donation is requested at the door and coffee, hot chocolate and baked goods will be sold for $1 per item. These funds will be used to support leadership student activities. If possible, bring your own bean bag, pillow, or blanket!

Parents are welcome. If you have questions or are able to lend some old, comfy seating for the evening, please contact Nicole Santos, Junior Class President, at nasantos.cphs@yahoo.com.
Enjoy California Pizza Kitchen on Wednesday and help the junior class
On Wednesday, December 14, the Class of 2013 is having a fundraiser at California Pizza Kitchen in Walnut Creek.

All you have to do is go any time that day, enjoy your food (eat in or take out), and present this flyer* to give 20% of your bill back to the junior class!

We would really appreciate it if our fellow Falcons came out for a delicious meal and some school spirit! If you have any questions, please contact Nicole Santos, Junior Class President at nasantos.cphs@yahoo.com. We hope to see you there!

*The flyer is required for us to receive the funds!
Winterfest is tomorrow night
Join us on Wednesday, Dec. 14, 7:00 to 9:00pm for Winterfest, an event that celebrates all of the visual & performing arts at College Park.

Concurrently in the multi-use room, the visual arts students will display original artwork from ceramics, glass, photography & art classes. Some of the students offer art for sale.

Come see the very talented teens in our community; bring the whole family! There is no charge for this event.

Mock ACT/SAT opportunities in Jan. & Feb.
Juniors: We have mock SAT and ACT tests coming up to help you prepare for the real thing, which you will be taking March-June of 2012. The first mock test will be Saturday, Jan. 7, from 9am - 1pm. The cost is $15, sign up on the CPHS webstore.

You can choose either the ACT or the SAT. Colleges give each test the same weight in the admissions process; you need to decide which test you prefer or whether you will take both in the spring.

Results will be available on Wednesday, Jan. 17 at 7pm in the library. There will be a second mock test on Feb. 25, also offering both the ACT and SAT, so students have the opportunity to try both to see if they have a preference.

Financial Aid information
Seniors: There is a wealth of financial aid information available on the College & Career Center website. Here is a brief overview; visit the website for complete details and important information.

The main gateway to federal, state and institutional money is the FAFSA form. This form cannot be completed before Jan. 1, 2012. To be eligible for financial aid you must complete the form for 2012-13. This form can be found online at FAFSA.ed.gov and must be submitted by March 2, 2012.

There are certain things families can do now to start the financial aid process:

1. Visit www.pin.ed.gov to get a PIN for the student and one for the parent(s).Each child in a family who will be attending college needs a separate PIN. Parents need only one PIN.

2. Look at the FAFSA on the Web Worksheet for a preview of some of the FAFSA questions.

3. Get an estimate of your eligibility for federal student aid by visiting www.fafsa4caster.ed.gov.

4. Plan to attend the Financial Aid Evening at Ygnacio Valley High School at 7pm in the MU on Thursday, Jan. 12, 2012.
