Choir car wash this weekend
The choir students are holding a car wash this Saturday, Sept. 17 at the Sports Authority parking lot (next to Sam's Club, 1235 Concord Ave) from 10am-4pm. 

The car wash will raise money for the choir's spring trip to Southern California. The car wash is only $5--come on out to support the choir program!

Time is running out for proof of Tdap vaccine
If you have not submitted proof of your child's Tdap (whooping cough) vaccine to College Park High School, the deadline is September 29, 2011.

California state law requires that students in grades 7-12 have this vaccine to attend school. Students without proof of vaccine will not be allowed to attend school after September 29, 2011. Proof of vaccine can be turned in at the main office.

Homecoming nominations on Monday

Homecoming nominations for all grades will be accepted on Monday, September 19.  There will be a designated box for each class located near the Student Store in Student Services South during brunch and lunch.  Students will be able to nominate each class' Homecoming court. 

Mock SAT/ACT results available Monday
Scores from the mock SAT/ACT held on Sat., September 10 will be available in the CP library at 7:00pm on Monday, September 19. There will be a brief presentation to explain the differences between the SAT and ACT and to help you interpret your test results.
Attention juniors & seniors who need to make up classes

Martinez Adult School is offering CPHS students limited spaces in their night school program. Registration is going on now for World History and English classes only.   

 

Applications are available from Mrs. Shaw in SSS #4. You must contact Martinez as soon as possible for the orientation meeting which is on Thursday, Sept. 29.   

 

Classes begin on Monday, Oct. 3 and run for 10 weeks.  Hours are 3:30-6pm only.  This is for remediating Fs only (no Ds).

Senior Kick-off postponed

Senior Kick-off has been postponed. If you have paid for this event your money will be applied to the new event. If you would a refund, apply in writing to Lyn Jones, CP Treasurer.

Back-to-School Night
Back to School Night will be on Thurs., September 22 from 6:30-8:30pm.
Save the date: Pleasant Hill Community Service Day is Sat., Sept. 24
CPHS will once again be participating in Pleasant Hill's Annual Community Service Day. There are many school improvement projects slated to take place that day including work in our organic garden, baseball field andASB leadership projects.

It's an all-day event and parents/students are encouraged to come for the day or just for an hour or two. Look for more information in the Falcon Flyer soon.

Take the first step--prep for the PSAT! Take this 4-session course to learn strategies, practice on actual PSAT questions, and gear up to perform your best on test day.

This seminar includes four sessions: three review & strategy sessions and one analysis session for students and parents after the test scores are returned. This program is a fundraiser for the CPHS chapter of the California Scholarship Federation.

Mt. Diablo Unified School District Student Services Office invites you to attend a presentation for parents

You are invited to attend a presentation by Victor DeNoble, Ph.D., and noted researcher on the biology of addiction. Dr. DeNoble will discuss the extreme addictiveness of nicotine and other drugs most often used by teens today.

The presentation will be held on Wednesday, September 28, 2011 from 7:00-8:30pm at the MDUSD Willow Creek Training Center (1036 Mohr Lane, Concord).

Seniors: get help with college applications

Seniors, take advantage of a fabulous opportunity to get valuable help with your college applications. We are offering two workshops, one on the essay and one on the application process.
 
In the essay workshop you will:
· learn what colleges are looking for in the essay

· discover great essay topipcs therough brainstorming exercises
· get insider tips for strengthening your writing skills
· start at least one essay and receive feedback on your topic choice
 
In the application workshop you will:
· learn how to strategically list your extra-curricular activities by completing the Activities and Awards section of both the Common App and the UC App
· edit descriptions of the of activities and service work to fit the application space while conveying all the key info you need to give the colleges

When?   Wed., September 28 at 2:45 - approx 5:00pm
Cost?  $30 per session. College Park is partnering with Admit One College Advising. Please make checks payable to Sara Schroeder.

Blood drive

The CP chapter of CSF is sponsoring a blood drive on Thursday, September 29 from 7:30am-2:00pm in the small gym. You must be 16 years old to donate blood.

CSF applications due Fri., September 30 

Applications for the College Park chapter of the California Scholarship Federation are available in the Main Office. Fill out the application (please read the instructions!), attach a copy of your June 2011 report card and $5 dues, and turn it in to the Treasurer's Office.

Applications will not be accepted after Fri., September 30.
