Don't miss Walk-thru on Thursday (8/25) and Friday (8/26)
| | |
Walk-thru at College Park High School allows students to get their photo IDs as well as receive their schedules, textbooks, and locker assignments. Booster groups, PTSA, and various school clubs and sports teams will also be there to answer questions and accept membership applications as well as donations.
Download Walk-thru forms here: cpwalkthru.homestead.com. Printed copies of the materials will be available in the school office for those parents who do not have access to a printer. The Walk-thru schedule is as follows: Thursday, August 25, 1:00 to 7:00pm - Freshmen and Seniors Friday, August 26, 1:00 to 7:00pm - Sophomores and Juniors You may arrive at any time during these hours. Please be aware that volunteers and school employees would like to finish by 7:00pm, so please plan accordingly. Parents with children scheduled on different days may register both children on Friday. Sophomores and juniors may not register on Thursday as their schedules will not be available.
Bring your checkbook; separate checks are required at Walk-thru for PTSA, Athletic Booster, Music Boosters, and donations. Walk-thru provides an opportunity for parents to become members of the PTSA, Athletic Boosters, and Music Boosters as well as make donations and get information about other groups important to the success of College Park High School. Because these groups are independent of each other, separate checks are required. Memberships and donations can be made in the following ways: For donations and membership fees to PTSA, you may: · Pay by cash or check at Walk-thru PTSA station. (A separate check is required.) · Visit the PTSA website at www.collegeparkptsa.com for instructions on how to donate or become a member. For Athletic Boosters, Music Boosters, and for purchasing Senior Grad Nite tickets, you may: · Pay by cash or check at appropriate walk-thru booster station. Tdap vaccine
| | |
According to state law, the Tdap (whooping cough) vaccine is required for all students in grades 7th through 12th grade.
Parents who have turned in their child's proof of vaccine will be notified by phone before Walk-thru that proof is on file. You do not need to bring any additional proof of vaccine to Walk-thru if the phone call states that proof has been turned in.
Parents who have NOT turned in their child's proof of vaccine will be notified by phone before Walk-thru that the proof is needed. Please bring proof to Walk-thru on the appropriate Walk-thru day. District policy states that students not having proof of the vaccine on the day of Walk-thru will not receive their schedules on that day, but must wait until the first day of school. After that, parents have 30 days to submit proof of vaccination to the school.
If you are notified that proof is NOT on file but you believe you turned in the proof, please contact the school nurse 925-682-8000 ext. 6054.

SAT/ACT reminder
| | Seniors intending to apply to CSU and/or UC MUST have an SAT or ACT score. Most private and out-of-state colleges also require test scores.
If you are a senior and have not taken either test yet, or you feel your scores are not a good reflection of your ability, then you should be registering to take the tests before Christmas.
The SAT is offered October 1; November 5; and December 3. The ACT is offered September 10; October 22 and December 10. Register online at sat.collegeboard.org/register and actstudent.org.
Students who qualify for free or reduced lunch should bring their notification of eligibility letter to Mrs. Welsh to receive a fee waiver for the test(s).

PSAT news (10th & 11th grades)
| | The Preliminary SAT is a test offered only in October of each year. It is designed to help students prepare for the SAT and is also the gateway to the National Merit competition. Juniors are strongly encouraged to take the PSAT.
The results become available in December and provide good feedback on each student's strengths and weaknesses. The students get their own test booklets back (complete with scratch work) along with a score sheet which tells them the correct answer for each question, what answer they chose, the level of difficulty of the question and the skill the question was designed to test.
Sophomores and freshmen are permitted to take the test for the experience but should be aware that they may not have covered all the math. PSAT scores do NOT go to colleges. The test results come only to the Career Center and are handed back with an explanation to help the students understand their scores.
Juniors who do exceptionally well in the PSAT are evaluated for the National Merit Competition. Any level of recognition in this competition is a powerful award to put on a college application. At the highest level students typically receive merit scholarships, some of which can be extremely generous.
The test will be held at College Park on Saturday October 15. Registration costs $22 and is through the College Park Webstore. Students who have a school-related commitment on Oct. 15 may sign up with Mrs. Welsh in the Career Center to take the test on the morning of Wed., Oct. 12 at the Willow Creek Center. It is not possible to register for the Wednesday test through the Web store. Seats are limited for the Wednesday test, so see Mrs Welsh as soon as possible.
