All That Glitters Is Not Gold
Website Magazine reports several negative studies regarding daily deals sites like Groupon and LivingSocial. Apparently under 20% of users return for full purchases after receiving online discounted offers from retail businesses, and 26.6% of businesses report losing money as a result of the deals. These studies addressed results from 500 businesses. On the plus side, 80% of the deal users tend to be new customers.

You may not realize it, but the Tax Reform Act of 1986 made major changes to tax considerations regarding incentives. It's all spelled out in Section 274 (j) of the Internal Revenue Code, and in order to be deductible an incentive must be part of a formal program to promote productivity.
