Greetings! It's December -- the end of one spectacular year and the eve of another. I'll be seeing several of you in person at your various events this month -- we're going to have a great time! Some others of you have used me in the past or have other entertainment booked this season -- that's great, too! I look forward to the opportunity to entertain you and your colleagues at another event in the future. My family and I wish you the richest of blessings during this season and in the coming year. We wish you a "Merry Christmas" as part of our celebration; we honor you and your celebrations as well. See you in 2006! ![]() Joe M. Turner
Shenanigans, my one-man show, premiered at the Grand Hyatt Atlanta in Buckhead last month to great reviews! Another show has been scheduled for 8:00 PM on Thursday, December 29 -- a perfect "between holidays" evening out! Tickets are on sale now via my web site -- purchase online and I'll see you in Buckhead for a night you'll never forget! Please take a moment and share the information about this show with your friends and colleagues in Atlanta. Better yet, buy an extra ticket and bring them with you!
The value I place on my repeat clients cannot be overstated. Many of you have brought me to multiple events -- dinners, trade shows, meetings -- often within the same year! Not only has this made it possible for me to learn more about your businesses and to incorporate your desired messages in the presentations... it has also given me places to invite new clients to get a taste of my work. Having repeat engagements is truly the highest compliment that a performer can be given. It is the highest form of testimonial, and make no mistake -- my other clients notice it! Your confidence in my performances challenges and inspires me to grow as a performer and speaker. I thank you for your continuing support and encouragement. For those who booked me for the first time this year -- I value my relationship with you, too, and I look forward to working with you for many years to come.
Much of my work -- both in performing and in speaking -- revolves around the manipulation of perception. In my case, it is generally from the standpoint of the theatrical performing art of illusion, repurposed to include and emphasize messages of importance to my audiences. But perception is more than an art; it is also a science. Michael Bach of the University of Freiburg (Germany) has created a page of truly outstanding optical illusions, animations, and demonstrations. If you are a speaker, a trainer, or just someone who may have to give a presentation -- you will want to bookmark this site. There are plenty of creative ways to incorporate a discussion of "perception versus reality" into your work, and this collection of interesting visual effects may help you add a memorable touch to your talk. A word of warning -- this site is mildly addictive! If you start playing with it, you will find yourself going through all 60 demonstrations. Don't start this right before an important meeting!
